1. arizona is the nicest place to be in the country in december ... 70 - 80 degrees no wind to speak of
2. the westin is really nice and is located next to a really swanky mall that can divert the attention of most women for day(s) so the golf course onsite (really nice) can be enjoyed
3. groupon has really good deal on fun stuff do to ie.. hot air balloon rides, horseback ridiing out in the desert, jeep tours, most very reasonably priced
4. there are casinos everywhere
5. tempe has a huge new years eve party should you stay that long
6. Free stuff to do as well.
if jon's trip isn't booked... really think about it ... or if it is... come anyway commercial... even if iowa gets killed you will have a blast
