Are Uhtoff and the bench hitting the wall??

Uhtoff is just not catching the ball in good positions. No clear outs for him to drive to the hoop, he doesnt look like he is going up agressively for his jump shot, he is a great player who is getting scouted to death. Need to post him down low more, etc.

I am not crabbing on the bench except to point out they are getting highly outscored, that is a bad trend for Fran to deal with, especially like tonite when Uhtoff gets into foul trouble.

I have always been a mike gesell fan for the little things he does but he needs to score, and score more because teams are playing 5 on 4 now with him in the lineup. never thought I would say this this year

Very underwhelming, that is my answer to all threads now, very underwhelming.

hawks finish 2 for 16 shooting the last 10 minutes, where was the senior leadership, Gesell is not taking charge of this team as I thought he would.

Hey all these players are 100 times better than I ever was, ok maybe 50 times better , but they looked a little lost and confused tonite

I don't understand Uthoff.

It seems as though there's been a fundamental change in his mentality.

One thing that stood out to me tonight was in the second half. Uthoff caught a pass in the corner and had a great look at a three. He passed up the initial look and dribbled the ball into a contested two-point fade-away. Not a great recipe for success.

I feel like a month ago he would have launched the corner shot when he caught it and drained it.

I think it's as simple as him making shots more difficult for himself than he needs to.

His legs are shot. I don't think he'll get them back until the season is over and he can completely rest them.

JU has sure lost a lot of spring in his jump.

I bet he is really second guessing himself instead of staying at Wisky or didn't take Fred's offer to attend Iowa State.
He is 0-8 against those two programs.

what observation tells you this??? You may be right but is he not jumping as high on rebounds and blocks, etc?
I was 8 rows up at the game and noticed it during warm ups. Your legs go through the motions but they don't have any explosiveness. With a week between games, he should have had plenty of stamina. He looked like an over trained athlete. Your lateral movement is a step slower. You don't have as good a balance as you normally would. Your mind tells your legs what to do but there's not a good response. You don't really think of a basketball player as an endurance athlete but they absolutely are. Nothing but running, jumping, lateral movement, back pedaling, etc.

I think he is fine with his choice of being a hawkeye. You really think he would like to play at schizo ISU in Ames, Wisky beats Iowa because they seem to slow down our game, well that is on the coaches and players to press and play tough defense to make the offense work

Hey Clown fan, take your sh!t and dump it with all the other sh!t at Clownfanatics. You got Niang felling other dudes wangs on the court, you got McKay who doesn't give a sh!t about the team, and you were eliminated from the conference title race weeks ago.

He is a Clown fan trolling is all.

Uthoffs only issue is in his head as much as anything. He had shots he just wasn't making any. MG can't/won't score. Clemmons is at least trying to but it's not his strength. Iowa was essentially a one man team with Jok last night and frankly I'm surprised we were in it to the extent we were. If it wasn't for Woodys D and rebounding we wouldn't have been. Wisky did a better job on Jok in the 2nd half and Iowa made no noticeable adjustments to either get him or others good looks. Not using Uthoff down low more hurts. He's not hitting his shots or free throws which tells me he's just not confident... I don't think it's a physical thing with him.

So why are our players so freaking tired? Especially after a week off? Other teams don't seem to have this problem and they play just as many games as we do.

Time to question the strength & conditioning program?

Edit: Just saw your other thread about this.

I don't want to 1 up lightning, but I was 2 rows up center court. They had a few defensive breakdowns, but they were hustling their ***** off. Fatigue didn't look like an issue to me at all. Except for your normal in game fatigue. Uthoff just looks so lackadaisical in his movement that it can look like tired legs. That's my unprofessional opinion. Lightning could be right just as easily as I could on this one tho.

I do not think D was the major issue for the Hawks. I agree that they worked very hard. Good grief...they only gave up about 60 points until garbage/free throw time. We average around 80, so we were 20 points under our average and would have won the game going away if our scoring would have been anywhere near normal range. Yeah, WI played very good half court D. They always do. We flat out shot poorly. I guess that happens, especially when your opponent is really dialed in on D. Yes, our three point D has taken a hit. But the fact remains that Wisconsin really did not score very many points.
