Apathy is a dangerous thing

I fear we are headed for an era similar to the years between Evy-Fry. The B1G is a different place. Iowa, self loathing team that it is, loves to play the, "we can't compete with OSU, Michigan, Nebby, Wisky, we are too small". Can't recruit because not enough D1 talent in Iowa. How does Nebby do it? Based on a team that was good in the mid 90's? And now the unthinkable has taken form. A very predictiable loss to ISU, and I am confident many of us wouldn't be surprised to lose to UNI. When the team and the fan base are "ho-hum" about poor results, apapthy has set in. And when that happens you get Burns, Nagel, Lauterbur, and Commings results. I will always be a Hawk fan, but I know that this is a very unenergetic bunch. Kinnick sounded like a mortuary on Saturday.

As long as Ferrets stubbornly refuses to modernize the program to keep pace with the changed (and changing) landscape of big-time college football, we are doomed to mediocrity or worse.
It's depressing.

It is depressing. But, I didn't expect us to be real good this year. (not quite this bad though) And I think we'll get back to greatness in a couple seasons.
I know that's not what you want to hear. Everybody wants top notch programs year after year. Is that possible? Yes. But it's not very realistic.
Don't jump off the cliff. It's gonna be a tough year. Better days are ahead.

Perhaps your hearing is going bad because it sounded very loud in my endzone. Especially in the fourth quarter when Iowa was on D, that place was rocking.

It really is. No matter what happens around college football, Ferentz will do what he wants. It is depressing.

A better example than Nebraska which for some reason people can't admit is a national brand name, is Kansas State.

Not a lot of talent.
Low population.
Another BCS In State school.

Yes they had a few down years, but they're a better program than Iowa is and they ought not to be.

Someone on the radio said it last week. PR has ISUwho not just believing they can win any game, but knowing that they can. I just don't see this same mentality in I.C. I think it use to be there...Hayden definitely had that mentality, and that bleed over to the fan base (which is why Iowa fans get called arrogant sometimes). That attitude is not there any more and I want it back! You can see it with all the excuses people make. We didn't make those excuses for Basketball why are we doing it for football? We put a lot of money into this program and getting very little return on investment. Sorry but the only way to change this, is to make drastic change!

This is really an insightful post... NOT!!! Your fear to go 19 years without a winning situation is absolutely ridiculous.

During those 19 years of non-wining seasons it wasn't apathetic fans that attended and supported Iowa football.... they were just Iowa people, Hawkeye supporters and and one of the best fan best then and now and forever. Probably the #1 reason Hayden Fry came North to do what he did.

Real, smart and true fans are NOT self loathing fans. If you choose to be that's your frickin' problem.

Sheesh... this is the youngest team in the last 10 years and once again, a play or 2 means a victory. The defense improves by leaps and bounds half to half, game to game. The offense needs of work.

In the mean time go away and take your apathy with you.

Lets play what if:

What if Iowa only wins 5 this year?
What if Iowa loses to UNI?

What will you say then? Why is this team so young? When do we stop making excuses and start looking for answers?

WHAT???? Sorry about that your life is where it is and you are now depressed. Please scorp, get some help for your depression. Hopefully you have some really good health coverage. If not, say hello to the other 50 millions of Americans that don't, along with the 50 million Americans now on SNAP.

In the meantime please enlighten me on what Coach Ferentz hasn't done to keep pace, what he hasn't changed to "compete" in big-time college football.

Your post to the original posted thread is just as ridiculous, without factual basis and as idiotic that I've read in awhile.

DOOMED??

Please can anyone think, research and reflect before they type aimlessly and post to Hawkeye Nation? I'm begging you people.

I'll come back next year excited for another year and a new opportunity and a much more experienced and talented team than 2012.

With full support of Coach Ferentz and his staff and the Hawkeye football team.

So nice to see I am not alone. Yes, we aren't very good and although I do think we will get better I think the year will be a struggle. 7 wins isn't out of the question but it will be very tough.

3 more games and we will have a better idea, then 2 weeks of practice To improve.

Still believing !

Another voice of reason. Agreed

I intentionally came into this season with apathy. Partly because I expect(ed) 7-5 to be the ceiling for this team (that's now dropped to 6-6). Partly because I didn't want to feel I had to request a seating change next season because of my verbal outbursts of disgust offending the geriatrics around me. (Happy to report, so far, so good. I really held it together on Saturday, in spite of The Offensive doing everything in its power to cause the most pious to spew obscenities.)

After 2 games of unwatchable impotence from The Offensive, all I can do is laugh when they take the field. That and look forward to the D to get back out there. I honestly feel they have a better chance of scoring than The Offensive, so, at least I experience a little hopeful interest during the game.

For me, I can't think of any better definition of apathy.

Don't you know everything comes back around? Nothing really new under the sun? yadda yadda yadda.

In the meantime is that all you got for a come back?

If it is, it doesn't matter if you go away or not... ignorance is always a choice, along with you'll just be ignored
