Usually quiet on the foot front...no news/good news?
I'm kinda surprised. I really thought they would hold him out of the PTL this year.
The PTL doesn't start until June 19, we've been done playing since April 4. If it were a stress fracture, he'd probably have 6 weeks of recovery time, meaning he'd be cleared to play by now, with another three weeks to get in playing shape. So I'm sure he's already ready to play by now, since it wasn't a fracture in the first place. It just needed a few weeks of rest.
Interesting on Basabe going to New York and not playing in the PTL. With the additional instruction time from the coaches...would have liked to have him spend more time in Iowa City. Unless he's playing in some league in New York with surrounding College players...not sure how he gets the competition that will be in the PTL...especially with Cole and Gatens playing too.
I would bet that Basabe can scout up some pick up games in NY that will more than rival the competition he would face in the PTL.
I would be more worried about Basabe missing the instruction time from coaches than PTL action. Im not sure how much better that league makes players. Dont get me wrong, I love going to watch the PTL but it really isnt anything more than a glorified pick up game.
IMO, the only significant benefit it provides over any other summer league that Basabe could play in, is that it offers a chance to get more familiar with the new faces on the team. But Jok is the only player that wasn't practicing last year, so that's not such an issue this year. Whereas last year, we had four freshmen and Uthoff.
Pretty tough to disagree with that. Besides he's from out there it's summer time and he wanted to go home I don't blame him a bit. As long as he's staying in shape and playing and he doesn't show up fat and out of shape in the fall I don't have a problem with it.
IIRC, the NCAA changed the rule so only 2 teammates can play together on the same summer league team. Jok would not count against this number this year but it severely limits a player's ability to develop chemistry with their teammates.

Just because Basabe will be going into the "real world," doesn't mean his training and work regime will diminish. Quite the opposite, said the soon-to-be 21-year-old, whose birthday is next Wednesday.
"I have a gym setup for me to train Monday through Saturday, while also competing in different summer leagues," he said. "Conditioning will be my main focus. I never have really run long distances, but I'm going to start doing that to improve my stamina and endurance. I'm going to embrace and attack that aggressively. I'll be in constant communication with coach McCaffery and staff throughout the summer."
Basabe will return to Iowa City in late July in time for the team's full workouts to prepare for its August foreign tour. He says few in his family have traveled to Europe, and he is blessed for this opportunity.

Serious question: what does that rule actually accomplish?
