How can that be?

Only 4 and 5 star recruits can be that good

Since 2002, here are the QB recruiting rankings:

Nathan Chandler - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

Jason Manson - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

Cy Phillips - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 2 star.

Eric McCollom - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 2 star.

Drew Tate - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 4 star.

Jake Christensen - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 4 star.

Arvell Nelson - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

Rick Stanzi - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

Marvin McNutt - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

James Vandenberg - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

John Wienke - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

Micah Hyde - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 2 star.

A.J. Derby - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 4 star.

C.J. Beathard - Yahoo! Sports, he was a 3 star.

These are all the QB's Iowa recruited and offered scholarships since 2002. Funny thing is at least half if not more were considered dual-thread QBs by the Rivals, not pocket passers. Clearly Iowa recruits dual-threat QBs, problem is they attempt to turn them into a pocket passer.

Anyway, back to the point. You seem to think that just because Johnny Manziel won the heisman and he was a RS freshman and he was only a 3 star that some how Iowa has a "Johnny Football" waiting to break out. Clearly you seem to be lacking real logic, the odds against this happening are extremely slim. Telling people to lay off these kids because they could be a "Johnny Football" isn't likely. I do agree people need to lay off this recruiting class as a few of these guys could potentially have great careers at Iowa but they need to lay off but solely because they haven't had their chance to play, oh yeah that and the fact that these are 17-18 year old kids.

Yeah, but his coach doesn't play to lose.
*enter sarcasm font here*
Nobody plays to lose. Maybe ur not smart enuf to pick up the fact that people like u cry about 3* players & instead of being a hawk fan your just a wet blanket. Not cool dude

It is all about how a player and his or her skills fit into a system. It may be that the system makes the player look good. I am not saying Matt Cassel is a good QB, but in NE he played well in a good system and that is how he got big money in the FA market. Same with Kevin Kolb and Matt Flynn (1 game). All three of these players played well in a good system and profited from it even though they haven't played well since leaving the system they were in. Johnny Football would suck balls as the QB for the Hawkeyes because the system sucks. I hope that I instilled some knowledge into some of you who are lacking in that area.

Way to much focus on stars peeps. Ill take a three star that really wants to play for Iowa and prove he should of been a five star vs a forlorn or five star that thinks he could have done better than Iowa and thinks he is a star before playing. Plus, how many four stars end up playing like three and two stars and vice versa. Dudes, evaluate after they get on the field.

The rankings aren't always right. Clowney was a 2 star.

Sorry to reply my own post, but I just checked on Rivals and I unfortunately confused Clowney with Alvis. Clowney was actually a 5 star and Alvis was a 2 star. Didn't want to get all Herbied up in here. Sorry for the mistake.

Dog in fight, fight in dog, or something. That something is key in sports and the more of it you have the better. Not saying 1 n 2 stars, but mostly 3 and 4's are fine if they have fight in them. You have to read and pick the right kids.
Now I happen to think this team has a bit of spunk in them, look at the MSU game. Work and focus is all that is holding them back. It is only up to them how far they want to go.

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2012 Alabama Commitments

Yeah I wouldn't ever want a guy like Yeldon b/c he is a 5 star and obviously doesn't have a work ethic. HAHA you guys that say stars don't matter only say that b/c we don't get the big stars.

Here are some odds of becoming a first round draft pick based on your stars....

Star Power: How recruiting rankings hold up at the top of the NFL Draft - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF*Blog - Yahoo! Sports

"The four and five-star players, a group that makes up a little under 13 percent of the entire population of college players, accounts for just shy of 60 percent of first-rounders."

I like those odds idk about you guys...

The Bama OLine last night is really what won them a championship. Of the starting five, 2 are 5* (left and right tackles), 1 4*, and 2 high 3*'s. I guess stars don't matter.

Their starting center had a "hurt" foot. He still played better than most people would have against that huge NT that Irish have.

That Oline is so good, sad part is they have more guys just waiting to get their turn. Welp guess we will just have to wait to see them next year in the NC game!
