Anyone else have issue w KF' depth charts?

Does anyone else have issues w how KF uses the depth chart? I realize that he probably uses it as a motivational tool, and he certainly uses it as a reward in some cases.

For example he has White listed as number two at RB last week. Everyone on this board knew that wasn't true. We knew Mccall was next man in. KF knew it also as when Coker put a second ball on the turf he was sprinting on the field. Marcus Schnoor was in a similar position, except he was actually listed as number one when he clearly wasn't the starter. I guess if I were White, and told I was number two, but clearly wasn't, I'd be a little ******.

I think the only reason he has White there for the second week in a row is because we don't really know who the second guy will be this year now. Yes, its assumed Johnson will be it, but its not a given. It'll change soon.

I think perhaps KF is careful about who he puts higher on the depth chart in these kinds of situations. By all accounts, White is a 100% team-first player. Schnoor was that way, too. Players that are willing to do whatever is best for the team might be willing to stomach being #1/#2 on the depth chart in order to motivate another player.

That's just one way to look at it.

i am not that worried about depth chart issues, other teams look at these too, and to a extent draw up a game plan accordingly although limited in nature; it does make for a fun discussion among fans, especially fans like you that take them too seriously

You're probably not a big fan of Belichik and how he uses the injury report either. KF has his reasons.

You aren't catching his drift. He's asking if people have an issue with the impact that this practice may or may not have on the Jason White's and Marcus Schnoor's on the team. The guys being told that they're #2 on the chart, but in reality they're #3 or even #4.

That's a fair question, though like I said earlier, I think Ferentz chooses the players that are willing to sacrifice their pride for the good of the team to put in that position.

You really suck at this.

He rarely puts true freshmen on the week one depth chart. Had McCall not gotten injured, he likely would have been listed as #2 this week.

Given my lack of D1 head coaching experience, I will defer to KF on this.

Again, I'm not saying I have an issue with who plays. I'm saying some players could take issue with the fact the depth chart doesn't accurately reflect who plays.

And I'm saying that I defer to KF's judgment as to whether "some players could take issue with the fact the depth chart doesn't accurately reflect who plays" and the effect that may have on the team and the individual players. That is part of coaching.

I trust him on this stuff. If he had a track record like Lick with regard to player transfers, I may re-evaluate my blind trust on this issue. Thus far, that is not an issue that KF has had, so I will defer to him on this issue.

i'm guessing there is a real depth chart and a media depth chart.

do you really think that players don't know where they stand in the program? i'm guessing what the coaches communicate with players and the media might be a tad bit different.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using the depth chart as motivation? Now if they only tell the player like Jason White what's really going on, that's one thing. And it actually plays into what I said earlier: the guys they choose for that role are guys who are willing to do it for the good of the team.

Or could it simply be that he puts these out way to early in the week to know. I mean maybe he gives the benefit of any doubt to the guys who are upper classmen and or guys that bring it every play! As the week goes on he probably re-evaluates based on more tape study and how the guys practice during the week (including a guys effort and attitude). Could have something to due with who is dinged up at the beginning of the week a well. Just guessing.

Duff Ol' boy you must have serious time on your hands to be this nit picky about something so petty, i can guess the kids know exactly where they stand, i doubt this staff plays games with kids
