Anybody remember where Iowa was ranked preseason in 85?

Did a quick bing search. All I could find was that the Hawks were ranked 16th in the ap at the end of 1984.

Check out 2003. Hawks were ranked #10 on November 2, with a 7-2 record and apparently dropped 10 spots to #20 on November 9 without playing a game. I don't remember that. How can you drop 10 spots by having a bye week?

You apparently didn't do your research.. Iowa lost to Purdue on Nov. 8, 2003. Iowa's bye week was after they played Michigan for homecoming in early October and OSU in mid-October. I only know this because we went to Columbus that year and it was a long two weeks between games. Plus OSU lost to Wisconsin on Iowa's bye week.

Interesting to see (according to this site) that Iowa worked it's way back up to #2 by the end of the Big 10 season, but got jumped due to the other teams continuing to play.

That Rose Bowl could have still been for a National Championship if they hadn't been jumped. Kind of closes the argument on whether it's good for the Big 10 to play after Thanksgiving.

Plenty of teams that play after Thanksgiving (which is almost always just their league title game) lose their chance at big dreams too. It's another chance to get beaten that other teams don't have to face. Though at least your fate is in your own hands.

Having a championship game and just crowning a conference champ based on conference record both have their pros and cons, neither is really better than the other.

Just using the link I was provided smart***

To this day...if there is ONE game which still pisses me off and caused me to permanently cast a mental pall over an opposing team/program, it was the 1985 Ohio State loss. I know, I know...it's been 25 years...get over it Seth...but still...

+1

It was amazing to see OSU fans tearing down their goal posts though.
