Another Gregory shred...

I forgot about this on late Thursday night...

I was at my computer and Matt Perrault sent me an IM, and part of it was that Dave Kaplan of WGN had told them that he believed Gregory is going to be Iowa's next coach. Normally, I wouldn't be all that interested in Kappy's opinion regarding an Iowa coaching search.

However, in this case, it might be worth paying special credence to, as Kappy is very, very tight with Tom Izzo.

Kappy posted in a 3/25 blog that was linked on the site that listed three Izzo coaching tree guys: Kap's Corner | ChicagoNow

Just how close are Kappy and Izzo? Some folks might say they are best friends..Some of you may have already known that and I am sorry for connecting these dots late...I was preoccupied with packing for our trip on Thursday night and my mind wasn't clicking.

Given that the search is going to go into its third week come Monday afternoon, this makes sense. If someone held a gun to my head and said you have to make a prediction right now and you have to be right, Gregory would be the guy I'd place my odds on..although I wouldnt feel too comfortable with that ultimatum :)

Here is a shot of them at Kevin O'Neil's wedding...Kappy is send from left and Izzo is next to him in the middle. Must have been an Irish or Scottish wedding.

And yes, I have permission from the wife to keep following the search while in between walks along the beach :)
 
I'll say this Jon, and I'm not saying it's not true, but if Kaplan is right on this then it's the first accurate thing I've ever heard him say. And I was listening to M & M when they Kaplan on.

But, the next day they had a guy on that covers Dayton basketball, and he thought Gregory would probably listen, but stay at Dayton.


Keep in mind, I'm OK with them hiring Gregory. But there has been so much " he's interested" "No, he's not" that there will be no way to tell until he's standing at the podium in Carver or still sitting in his office in Dayton. The Pearl stuff is the same way.
 
Yeah, there is no way that I am ready to say "it's going to be this guy'.

The shreds are still too thin...this has been a very, very clandestine search...things have stayed way off the radar.

I don't mind beaches...and it feels good to wear shorts...but I am a homebody and the best vacation I have ever had was last November the week leading up to Thanksgiving when my folks had our kids for 5 days and my wife and I just stayed at our house in WDM and I did nothing...loved it.
 
Hey Jon!! Where are you heading in Florida? Just wanted to let you know I live in Naples and the weather right now is the best I've seen in about three months, so you came down at a good time.
 
Dude on the far left in that pic looks like he's going for the "gangsta Irish" look. :)

How did O'Neill got to be tight with Izzo & Co.?
