I watched Andrew play Saturday against Memphis Hamilton. He played limited minutes but played a big part in Oak Hill closing in on Hamilton in the second half. He looks really smooth and has a great shot. Ended up with 11 or 12 and played less than 20 minutes. He doesn't start but is the first off the bench on a team with several D-1 commits. He will fit in nicely for Iowa next year and will get minutes early. He brings more to the table than our guards playing now. Hamilton went up by 20 early in the second half and Oak Hill eventually cut the lead to 6 but couldn't close on the road. It was Oak Hills first loss of the season and they were ranked #3 by ESPN and #1 by MaxPreps.

Just an honest question and I am not trying to be negative or anything but isn't he suppose to be the top recruit of our class or the second best recruit? Seems strange that he is not starting for his team. We really need someone that can step right in and be an impact player especially at the guard position.

Being the 6th man on an Oakhill team isn't your typical 6th man. He will be ready to contribute IMO.

BigD, it probably does seem weird that he doesn't start, but the rest of the team is loaded with Top 50 guys. It's sort of like being the 6th man on Kentucky.

I watched the game as well. The first half he picked up 2 quick fouls and didn't get much playing time. Then in the 2nd half he hit some key contested 3's to get Oak Hill back in the game. The coach left him in almost the entire 2nd half because he was playing well. Flemming could have done more, but with a team of all top recruits, you are lucky to see them pass the ball more than one time on offense. As soon as someone gets the ball, they take it to the hoop and throw it up. That's why they were down by 20 points.

Some people have compared Flemming to Gatens, and I think that's a solid comparison. Gatens will probably go down as the better defender, but that's not surprising. Flemming should be ready to contribute as a freshman, and playing at Oak Hill helps a lot.

I watched as well. Fleming got hot in the 2nd half was key in getting them back in the game. At that point a top recruit for Ohio State, Bacon, absolutely refused to pass the ball and started throwing up garbage shots despite Fleming being open. Pretty good players on that team but looked like an AAU game with essentially no teamwork whatsoever outside of Fleming when he had the ball, and a ton of just 1 on 1 isolation crap. Was awful to watch.

Thank you all for that information as that paints a good picture of Andrew's potential and how he can help us out.

I only saw the 1st half which wasn't great for Flemming as he didn't start and picked up a couple quick fouls.

I'll say this, you could certainly see talent for a high school team. When the game started I was disappointed that we had a D1 recruit that wasn't starting but could quickly see that the teams were just that good.

Also, in the first half the commentators referenced a conversation with the coach who stated Fleming had really been coming on as of recent.

Wish I could have seen the 2nd half... sounds like I missed the best part of this game.

From what I've seen of Fleming, he reminds me of Gatens. Both have similar height and body types and both are considered shooters. You are probably right that Gatens will go down as the better defender. Time will tell. What I like is that Fleming has been shooting well against top high school competition and that's more telling than smaller school shooter recruits.

Does anyone know anything about the other guards on the team that start?

Using the 247Sports "composite" score, which uses a combination of all recruiting sites to rank them, this should give you a better idea...

Dwayne Bacon, SF (Florida State) - #20 (rank)
Daniel Giddens, C (Ohio State) - #45
Terrence Phillips, PG (Missouri) - #96
Joshua Reaves, SG (Penn State) - #181 (#81 by ESPN)

Those are the other notable seniors. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Bacon started at the SG position. Bacon also scored 29 points, so I wouldn't be upset about Fleming not starting.

As others have said, there's a lot of talent on the Oak Hill team. I do think Fleming's got Matt Gaten-like potential. But potential is just that- it doesn't mean anything until it's on the floor with the Iowa team. Actually, I think Moss has the most potential in this class. If he or Fleming can hold on to the ball and shoot in games, they could see the floor next year. Wagner may have the most opportunity to play because of our current dearth of bigs next year. However, according to the rankings, Hutton is actually the highest-rated player of the 4. I personally am not high on any particular player in this class. They all have some intriguing upsides. But the things that excite me about this class is how they will raise the level of athleticism on the team and how they break the ice with Chicago recruiting.

And yet the class is ranked 11th in the B1G. Well, while the '12 class I think has been a disappointment in terms of expectations my gut tells me this class will be a pleasant surprise.

Thanks snap, good info.

Highschool ball is so hard to watch. They just don't pass it. I bet 50 percent of the possessions were of that Bacon kid dribbling up and shooting with no offense being run at all. He's an athletic kid but geez that coach could better utilize a talented group then that I would think.

Fleming when he got his feet set you can tell he can shoot. Looked alittle lost on defense a few times though... Not sure how quick of feet he has he didn't look all that quick to me which really does make me think back to the Gatens days. But from seeing his AAU highlights and from his other games last yr he looked athletic enough to me. But the reason he's not starting is the Bacon kid is a stud and he's a SG too.

The HS Fleming came from in TN was pretty good yet not the greatest and he was the best in the entire state 2 yrs in a row. He transfered to Oak Hill this yr to challenge himself. Being private like they are allows them to play more games and have a tougher schedule. They don't accept just anyone to go play there. I'd rather he be a 6th man there then throw up monster numbers against inferior competition like he's already proven he can do....

I'd take another Gatens because he was a pretty decent player. But I hope at least one of the other guys provides more of an impact than that because we really need that to take the next step as a program.

I don't disagree with you. I am disappointed in the class ranking as well. However, also look at how the class impacts this particular Iowa team in 2015 and going forward. It's an upgrade in athleticism and gets us into Chicago recruiting.
