Analysis - Hawks are bringing this to the next game

Jok seems to have his legs or his stroke back which is huge, hawks need that extra scoring option and threat. And he played pretty good dee.
White is still on fire and he hit a 15 footer off the dribble and another 1 or 2 treys.
Hawks really pushed the ball and can keep doing it.
haha, I had to laugh because it looked like Woody was still sleeping on the team bus when the game started, he got taken out and when he came in he was in beast mode, sort of, I mean he was ripping boards and great at following shots.
Gabe had a very good game and it is probably too late but it would be nice to see him put a little softer arc on his shots or not try the little jumpers but go for the up and under dunks.
Uthoff played very well overall except for his shooting % but I see him doing better Sunday, the hawks will have another practice and shoot around tomorrow.
Clemmons was very efficient and good with the handles and defense.

Overall the hawks are playing with confidence which is huge and they shot well at the neutral court which was one of my big fears.

As Lute Olson would say on his post games, if your opponent has a couple of bigger type big men you want to get into an up and down game and fast break so their big men end up playing from free throw line to free throw line.

Davidson totally tried to speed up the game, especially at half. The problem is all they ended up doing it chucking up very tough contested shots and missing. It is fine to try to speed up the game, but you can't just start chucking low % shots and think you are gonna do any damage. Give it to Iowa though, they played GREAT D. You could tell Iowa wasn't afraid of their guards, and just stayed man v man all game. Their guards may be ok, but they just didn't have the lateral quickness of B1G guards. Heck even Iowa was laterally quicker than Davidson.

The one thing I noticed, speaking of defense, is every one of our guys were totally gassed trying to keep up with Davidson.....which means they really played hard on both ends, it was a great team effort, in which we limited their shot attempts from behind the arc, and forced them into some off-balance shots.....expect more from the 'Zags, but I still think we prevail...The 'Zags have been knocked out in the field of 32 in each of the last 5 years....I like our chances (Oh and go UCLA)...wouldn't that be something

How can It be an analysis when you don't talk about the second most important player for the win...gesell.

1) I find it funny when people talk about clemmons defense because gesell is a better defender.

2) gesell had 6 assists and zero turnovers.

3) gesell went off early in the second half and held off a surge by Davidson. Then white got going in the second half and put Davidson away.

4) in the the wins gesell has usually been one of the 3 most important players on the team every time.

Gesell had a great game no doubt. Not sure I agree with #1 though. I will admit that MG's defensive skills have improved a ton and he does play excellent D. But I've never seen Clemmons get beat on D. I just think his technique is textbook. Both are very good defenders.

Clemmons gets beat a lot. He only plays one way on the ball...tight and he gets blown by more than gesell. Gesell is a position defender and gets more steals per game than clemmons. I like Clemmons as a player but he is a back up and a step down both offensively and defensively when Gesell is out. Teams actually score more per possession when clemmons is in at point guard and olaseni is in at center. Two big fallacies for iowa are that clemmons and olaseni are better defenders than gesell and Woodbury.

^^ totally correct, a bad omission on my part especially since I have been backing gesell since month 1 his freshman year.

He had a great game and hit a big 3 ptr.

THIS^^^ this team goes how Mike goes. If Mike is having a bad game it seems the whole team sucks.

Combine that with the fact that both Woody and Gabe run the floor very well for big men and we SHOULD be able to run on them.
