An odd and random little stat

Most years since 99 we haven't faced Mich/Ohio State in the same season. That's only mildly interesting to me. But what I do find fascinating is that in -
07
08
14
15
16 (underway)
we didn't play either team. Those years would seem ripe to get to double-digit wins. Yet, it's only happened once so far. So I thought to myself maybe the problem was the OOC? Nada. If Iowa is a developmental program we need to do well in the years the scheduling gods are generous.

Actually not having Michigan on the schedule has probably hurt the win totals recently. In 2007 they were solid and would have killed the JC led Hawkeyes. But in 2008 and 2014 they weren't good. In 2015 they had JR at QB. Advantage Iowa there.

2016 could be a much different story. Iowa prides itself on being physical. Michigan is more physical in their sleep than Iowa is. And they have better athletes at every skill position than Iowa does. If their QB doesn't make mistakes, that game could get ugly.

Wouldn't it maybe depend on who was swapped out for them?

Speaking of fun stats:
