My Hawkeye friends, let me remind you about a time eight years ago. Yes, you may have guessed it, I am talking about the Iowa State game that shattered the hopes of an undefeated season similar to this one in 2002. That day, all was well going into halftime having a 17 point lead with a score of 7-24. Then however Seneca Wallace's magic came to life in the second half. He led the cyclones to 29 straight points which gave them a 36-24 lead. Those 29 points were powered by a couple of Brad Banks fumbles in Iowa territory. Iowa scored late to lessen the lead to just 5 for the cyclones but the onside kick failed and the cyclones ran the clock out for the win. Many of you remember that day but you also remember how the rest of the season went. A 48-7 bashing against Utah State, a 42-35 OT thriller win at Penn State, held on to beat Purdue 31-28, lit up Michigan State in a 44-16 win, a three interception performance by Grant Steen to push Iowa past Indiana in Bloomington 24-8, a rare win at Michigan 34-9, a win against Wisconsin 20-3, an absolute romp kicking performance against Northwestern to win 62-10, and a 365 team rushing yard performance to beat Minnesota in the Metrodome 45-21.

Now, we all know that season was special, but why can't this one be? The schedule actually favors this years team better with having Penn State at home unlike in 2002 and luckily getting Ohio State at home where we all know the odds are much better for the Hawks to win. So don't forget about the Arizona game, as the loss will make the rest of the wins that much sweeter, but don't lose sleep over it. This year's team is really good, I mean really good. Don't think that one hiccup game determines the whole season because as I just proved to you, this season could just end up like 2002.

We have a great stretch of games coming up. 4 ranked in a row after BSU. If we put up some big numbers and make some statements we could jump back into the top 10 by the time we hit the "softer" part of our schedule.

There were no hopes of an undefeated season in 2002. The expectations were nowhere NEAR the level of this year.

But I understand your point. The season is not over by any means and fans should not be gnashing their teeth over a loss.
