If the team doesn't win on Saturday it is 2005 all over again - only, in my mind, worse.
I disagree. In 2005, we got manhandled by Ohio State and we lost in embarrassing fashion against Iowa State.
In large part, in 2005, we lost due to attitude issues on the squad AND due to inexperience and/or injuries at key positions.
The nice thing about the 2010 squad is that I still think that the overall team attitude is much better than what it was back in 2005. However, not unlike the '05 squad, we've gotten stung some by injuries and/or inexperience.
One thing that I didn't like about the '05 team is that the team didn't take ownership of their losses. I heard Drew Tate say crap like "we beat ourselves" too much ... whereas we don't hear that sort of trash come from Stanzi.
A big benefit that the '05 team had is that the D managed to remain pretty healthy at most of the key spots. As I recall, Shada had to come in a bit in '05. Of course, Merrick was rather exploitable on pass D. However, at least the D didn't have to do a lot of personnel shuffling at the midpoint of the season.
In contrast, the 2010 Iowa D hasn't enjoyed nearly has good personnel continuity. That is definitely not a good thing. Furthermore, our special teams play has been the worst its been in years (for pretty obvious reasons).
