Ali Farokhmanesh QUESTION

I don't follow recruiting much so can any one say why we didn't land this kid in I/C. Please tell me that Lick didn't offer him. I would be ok with that now that Lick is gone and we know all the mistakes that were made. I'd be very disappointed if ALI turned the Hawks down.

Ali was pretty small coming out of Iowa City West High School. He went to Indian Hills CC for one year then went to Kirkwood CC for the next year.

Iowa offered Jermaine Davis a scholarship and chose to skip on Ali. I understand the move as JD was 6'4 and pretty athletic. He had Big 10 athleticism but was not that talented, but was a guy you could see maybe improving and being a pretty good defensive player and a guy with quicks/athleticism to put the ball on the floor a little.

I guess Iowa decided since they had Bawinkle (shooter) they did not need Ali (shooter). I honestly think Ali's lack of size always had him overlooked a tad.

Ali is one heck of a tough little player. He just understands how to play the game. He would be a nice role player at Iowa. He offers more than Lil Lick or Bawinkle obviously.

Thanks IC. It's easy now to say they missed on him. I'm just glad he got his chance and lets face it hes in a better situation at UNI now anyway.

Role player at Iowa? Please. Ali would probably be Iowa's leading scorer this year. The kid can flat out light it up.

I think if you watch UNI you can see a few of key differences between the "Butler way" and what UNI does. 1) they play help/switching D (more like Wisconsin than Iowa), 2)They pass with a purpose (their passes around the perimeter are designed to open up space to feed the post, Iowa has no post so they just pass around the perimeter to set up another pass around the perimeter), 3)Drive and kick is one of their go to plays, 4) Unlike Iowa when the shot clock is running down (which I will admit UNI uses lots of clock) they go to hole and throw something up and crash the offensive glass, something Iowa knows nothing about

Pretty sure Ali and his folks do not care much for the University of Iowa. Thus I don't think there was any interest there.

UNI has certainly done well with not-good-enough for IOWA rejects Ali and Kurt Warner.

Well much like BBall if you dont win you don't get to stick around and Iowa women's volleyball has been awful since Christ was a small child.
