The Hawkeyes need help at WR and it could come from a quartet of incoming freshmen. In the 2nd installment of a 4-part series on the group, HN hears from New Jersey's Ihmir Smith Marsette:

I was getting ready to point out Rob's obvious typo (1200 yads and only 31 rec?), and then he goes on to explain that this guy ACTUALLY averaged 40 yards per catch! And 20 TDs from his 31 rec (probably a couple of return TDs thrown in there)!

That's insane! 40 yds per catch????

I, too, am intrigued. I am so intrigued that I said the word "Intriguing!" out loud while nodding my head and stroking my chin. Intriguing indeed!

He's the fastest guy in this WR class. I'm intrigued.

Tell me that he ranks high among the other freshmen receivers coming into to play for our conference foes not just against other Iowa recruits. That would be a lot more interesting and important.

I have overlooked Marsette to this point. I am not likely to make that mistake moving forward.

As a HS junior, he had the 40th best 110H time in the nation (13.97). That is elite speed for any school.

Agreed. The kids athletic merit is evident. His HS football team used him as a deep threat. Hence the 40 yard per reception. The real question is can Iowa make the same use of the kid. Can we get him up to speed and teach him the techniques to fight off college DB's? Can we deliver the ball accurately and on time for a deep route? We have seen so very little of it the past few years that I can't help but question it. I am hopeful though that the new staff can implement and utilize this basic component of an offense. Marsette sure looks to be a player that could help bring that back.

Excellent!!!! Rob, why aren't you reporting this stuff? If you did and I missed it, then my apologies. I am sure we have enough experienced posters on this forum that realize quality recruits bring in or draw other quality recruits. So shout it from the housetops when it happens.

Oh, but I did report on the hurdle time from last year and that he's the cousin of Queen Latifah. You really should read my recruiting stories. They're chock full of info. :)

These have been great articles on the incoming freshman WRs. It appears each of them have their strengths (hands, route running, size, speed, etc.) so they have a good shot at finding their niche the first year. Ihmir sure looks like a burner with that 40 time and 40 ypc stat. Seems like he certainly could stretch the field and be a jet sweep guy also.

None of this can be true. We are a B1G team and as the 4-letter network likes to remind everyone during bowl season, only the SEC has elite speed.

Thanks for reading. Posted Cooper today and will run Marchese tomorrow.

I'm really looking forward to seeing which of these four guys gets on the field this year.

I know I didn't see Matt VandeBerg emerging from the class that also Anjeus (AJ) Jones, Damond Powell, Derrick Willies, Derrick Mitchell and Andre Harris.

It matters what they do when they get here. The adjustment time is an unknown as well.

Sorry about that as I stopped going into the recruiting forum ifnthats where you put that information. A few years ago a couple of posters

Thank you for the link. Here's the thing. After so many disappointments with prospective recruits going with other programs I've gotten to the point where I don't bother to read about the high school kids until they have committed to us. It's just been a waste of time, of which I have little of. Once they have committed then I love to read about them. I must have missed the post or article of when this recruit committed to us. I have an extremely demanding position at work and use personal break time to read your articles. Sometimes I don't get breaks because of the urgency of what's going on at work. I'm am sure there are times when that has happened to you and many others here on the forum................ for those that work or are carry 18 or more credits a semester at college.

It's all good. I was just kidding around.

I appreciate whenever you and others read my articles. Life is busy.

Isn't that the year we poached from the oline? Who would have guessed that class would turn out like that? They had me fooled.

Yep...that was the class. And not a damn scholarship receiver panned out. MVB wasn't initially a scholarship guy in that class. I mean, that's like historically awful evaluation and development. Not a single one of those guys even made it to senior day.
