AJ Epenesa #2 in the country

It would be a get of epic proportions if we landed him. Likely at least a year before he makes any decision.

Is it realistic that we actually land him? I know he is an Iowa legacy but that doesn't guarantee anything. He's going to have an offer from the top programs all over the country. That #2 ranking just seems to make it unrealistic that Iowa lands him. Has Iowa EVER landed a top 10 national recruit?

This is the new era of college football, where players are able to cash in on their own likeness. A.J.'s jersey will sell like hotcakes in IOWA. He will be able to develop a regional brand, because of Iowa's Chicago contingent. He will be instantly recognizable, people will pay for his and his father's autograph. They will reel in major cash from the minute he signs with the hawks, it would be myopic if they take the dump truck full of cash the SEC will try to back up to their house, as the stream of future cash flows from the state of Iowa will make that look like chump change.

ISU will swoop in and snag him at that last minute. Mark it down.

WRONG! AJ will have likely already committed to another school. Coach Paw would NEVER continue to recruit a kid that was already committed. He is to pwoud for that.

There it is...gameplan for earnings while in college. He could be Iowa's version of Clowney, with a better attitude.....c'mon over, AJ!

As nice as it would be to land him, we can sort of see the writing on the wall that we will be playing bridesmaid to the big boys ... The family ties to the U of I certainly can't hurt and I think will keep Iowa in his final list ... Anything is possible ... right!? :)

Very realistic, but far away (Class of 2017), some of the scouts on 247sports are so confident they've already predicted Iowa. But the blue bloods will be recruiting him very hard to the next few yrs.

So much can change/happen in two years it's not even funny. That said I'd like to think that Iowa is the leader so far. We should embrace that and quit acting like Lucy is going to pull the football on us again. As a fan base we should try and stay positive and hope he grows improves and chooses to become a Hawk. Relationships are everything in recruiting and his Dad seems to have a great one with the staff and school. If Lizzard can go to the clones with no qb on the roster worth a D1 scholly then surely a kid like AJ Epensa can pick Iowa eh?

I think this one is different, I think Iowa gets him.

It's not like he is an out of state kid who has a an older brother that has played a year or two at Iowa.

AJ's dad played at Iowa and adores the Iowa program and the state of Iowa. Kakert has reported that when KF called AJ with the offer, Epenesa Epenesa was right beside his son and it was an extremely emotional moment for the entire family.

I think we get him.

His old man was such a fan favorite when he played--I don't think there is a Hawkeye fan that was alive when Epenesa #1 played that does not remember him and remember him fondly. That has to have an impact on how A.J. has viewed Iowa, probably since he was in diapers.

A.J. knows how great Iowa can be from a player's standpoint. How could he pass that up?

AJ would be an incredible get and it will take every bit of his love for the Hawkeyes to land him. If we were an SEC school his dad would be our DC by now, but we'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out over the next year and a half. Where's my Maalox...
