Adversity, Lawsuits, 2021 West

I just came across this video on YouTube and found it interesting. It may have been posted on here earlier. If the link doesn’t work for you the video is called “Can Iowa Win The Big Ten West? 2021 Iowa Hawkeye Season Preview.”

As with some YouTube videos ads do pop up but usually you can skip through them.

Chad Leistikow is interviewed on a Buckeye show.

I reserve the right to revise my expectations if Iowa somehow wins their first two games. After that the only stumbling blocks standing in their way is Wisconsin and PennState. Beat the Badgers and we are in the Conference title game.

That of course, like I said requires winning the first two games. The QB play will be extremely vital to this season. Hopefully Goodson can help things by having an extremely successful season and take a lot of pressure off of Petras.

Indiana is the one you have to get. Losing to ISU sucks big time, but everything is still in play if you lose it. Even an 0-2 start and you still have a legit shot to win the West.

I hate that we stumble early and build up as the season goes. Get those boys ready for game 1 and play it like it was a championship game. No conservatism and holding the play book back for later.
I was just thinking about this today. I remember the Fry years and smashing the first team we would play. Those boys were ready to go. Since we finished really well last year maybe it will carry over to begin the season. It will need to.

On the lawsuit side of things, I wonder if there will be implications if Brian if found guilty and ends up with a multi-million dollar settlement on his head. We've seen this with Barta surviving it, but an assistant coach?

Winning the 2021 West - low vax rates scare me for Hawks chances.
Seeing what this does already to NFL camps that just opened.
Wouldn't shock me to see Hawks 1st series against Indiana with guys on the field no one was planning to see as of today.

Wow. I had no idea Brian had been charged with a crime.

One other thing I meant to comment on and that is the terrible inconstancy that we saw during the spring practice with Petras. I mean it was pretty bad. There are YouTube videos of the practice and the back up QB actually looked like what you would expect from a QB that won his last six games. Too find those videos I thing I did a simple

Did you watch the video?

A District Judge upon review of the evidence released Kirk from charges and dropped several charges against the other two. However He found reasonable cause to let the case against Brian and Doyle move forward. Doesn’t mean anyone is going to be found guilty of liability or anything else. If found guilty however that would mean they are found guilty of a some kind of liability and damages. Liabilities come from violating other people’s rights and freedoms.

Hopefully a impartial jury will find in favor of Brian and Doyle.

A lawsuit is a whole lot different than criminal charges.

That is correct as we are talking about tort law here.
Well, you used the phrases, “A district judge…dropped the charges,” and, “found guilty.”

Those aren’t terms that apply to tort law. You’re implying with your post that Brian and Doyle were charged with crimes because of the wording you used, which is confusing as shit to some people.

They’re getting sued is all. If they’re found liable the U will pay a settlement and move on. No different than Farta and Tracey Greasebomb.

Maybe those weren’t the best words to use. I guess those words could cause confusion. My point was that their cases have continued on and Kirk’s was dismissed.

You are really downplaying the hawks and Kirk's recent history against jNW and Fitz. Usually the hawks have the better overall team but still lose this game even at home.

Fitz knows how to play defense against the hawks and keep the score lower. And he is more of a gambler to pull out games late and he just lets his kids play.

KF and the boys had better be strapped in and ready to beat Indiana. I have posted before that I think Indiana was a one-hit wonder last year, benefitted from COVID, and is overrated. If so, they are coming into our house and I expect the Hawks to knock their dicks in the dirt. Iowa should be game planning for that game now.

Win that one, and you walk into Lames with all the pressure on the Clowns. Iowa would already have a Top 15 win in the bag. Playing with house money as no one expects Iowa to win both of those games. Iowa State could certainly be in a position to choke under the pressure.

And, to the point of starting slow, I get it. But looking at it another way, steel sharpens steel, and those first two games are brutal. Should set Iowa up for tough playing the rest of the year. And, starting against Indiana should be a good intensity setter for next week in the big top. So, I actually like the schedule oddly enough.

Lol, Clowns? BigTop?

Kind of looks like it has the makings of another 8-4/9-3 solid season.....but not great. Though, if they start off 2-0 things could be really interesting.

Starting out 2-0 vs two Top 15 teams would be the best start in Iowa football history. Problem is, Indiana isn't a 1-year wonder, and the Cyclones have more players on the preseason All-American team than Alabama, plus an experienced QB returning. I'd feel better about the Indiana game if it was at night, but alas it's not. On the other hand, I feel better about the daytime game at Ames than if that game were at night.

“I’d feel better……”

Well as Iowa fans we shouldn’t be fretting over a win or loss here or there. It’s not like we are Alabama and we’re expected to compete for a National Title every other season. In fact we are never expected to compete for a national title. That’s the truth. It’s been accepted in Hawkeye land.

We should be happy that we manage to meet most Iowa fans expectations almost every season. Isn’t 7-5 the mark? Technically 7.5 wins and 4.5 losses. Anything better than that is gravy.

So relax and enjoy the games. Win or lose enjoy the good times when they happen and expect the bad times when they happen. That is Iowa football as we have known it under Hayden and Kirk. To expect anything else is over exuberance and causes frustration. However you never know as we don’t have Ohio State and Michigan on the regular schedule this year…………… hmmmm didn’t that happen in 2015? I’m not saying, but I am just saying.
