Advantages and Disavantages of getting in

I dont see this team magically turning it around which very likely means another night of very bad basketball
On the other hand it gets the "not getting in for years" monkey off our backs. That is important because its likely to be back on next year

I see no advantage to not getting in. Rather lose in the first round by 50 then win the NIT.

The way things are looking lately, Iowa could lose in the first round of the NIT. I don't see any advantage of not making the tournament.

You go play the tournament game.... pray to God that we can somehow come out hot early and get a tiny little bit of confidence and hope to ride that wave for as far as it will take us.

If that doesn't happen... no matter how bad this season ends, this team should be known as the team that FINALLY brought us BACK!!!

There is no disadvantage. Iowa *could* win their first game of the tournament and face a 2 or 3 seed in the second game. It's highly unlikely given how badly they are playing right now, but it's certainly not impossible. Just the fact that it is a possibility makes it all worth it, IMO

This is absolutely the way I'm looking at it. A first round NCAA loss is better than a first round NIT loss.

The NIT isn't exactly chopped liver.. Basically the next set of teams that weren't quite good enough for the NCAA Tournament. With the way Iowa is playing, a first round NIT loss is a very real possibility.

This is possible. Minnesota also looked dead in the water last year, but still backed into the dance and beat UCLA in the 6/11 game.

IMHO if they're playing for eachother and playing like they actually want to be there they there is no disadvantage in getting in. If they're playing for themselves and going about it with zero passion and no emotion and simply going through the motions because the season isin't over then I see it being a disadvantage.

If their hearts are in it and they're still alot of fight left then its a simply answer. That said, if they've thrown it in, and simply don't care anymore then theres no point in a dragging out the season.

Not saying iowa's thrown it in or quit playing for eachother. But the way they've played lately I truly don't know and can't rule that out. Only they know the answer, but regardless this skid has to end one way or another.

I agree, but I would add that I think if Iowa plays the first round of the NCAA Tournament like they have mailed it in, then I'm sure that would also be exactly the same thing, except even worse, for a first round NIT game. So to me, that's a wash. If you can't get up for an NCAA game, then it's over regardless of where you end up.

All we can hope for is that this is not the case.

About the only disadvantage is it puts an end to our on going "We're Back" jokes. I am going to miss those. :(

Robert Morris just missed out on the tourney. They will knock off someone again this year in the NIT

maybe the seniors realize they are almost done with their careers and show some damn passion
