Actually, for those wanting Wiscy in BTT Final...

...I think we should almost PREFER them in the semis. If we get them in the final, they are hard-focused for regular season and tournament titles. Getting them in the semis might actually put US in the more "aggressive" mode, since making the final not only has us pretty much assured of an NCAA tourney spot, but might put us in "save it for later" mode if Wiscy jumps out to a lead.

Just my thoughts, I'm positive others can make as good a/better case for wanting them in finals.

Of course, we need a few wins before that even happens, anyway.

For those of you worried about the BTT final.... slow down.

Isn't it pretty obvious that all of this "Wisconsin in the finals" talk is about avoiding the best team for is long as possible? Your comment makes it look like you think everyone just assumes we will make the finals and we hope it's Wisconsin that we are up against when we get there.

Ok so my comment was pretty stupid. Asking for a 1 time break.

I'm all for avoiding the best team as long as possible.

That thought process is totally backwards.

Who cares who we play if we were to actually get to the finals. That would assure us a decent seed in the real tourney.

Beating Wisconsin is not the goal, best case is we can avoid them all together.

What makes people so sure Wisconsin would be in the finals? Iowa is capable of beating Wisconsin.

Im not sure they would make the finals, that was my point.

Yes iowa could beat them but it makes no sense to want to face the best team in the conference in a tournament format before you have to, especially since you could win without even facing them.

I have no expectation of making the finals. I want wins -- 1 if Hawks are #4, 2 if they're #5. I do get a little selfish with wanting rematches with Purdue and Wisky, but I sort of see Hawks BTT ending in the semi's, against Wisky. I just hope they show well and an upset would be tasty gravy!

Either way, at that point, 22-23 wins + a very solid resume and maybe sneak up to the 6 line in the dance?

Clearly Wisconsin isn't an ideal match up, since they're obviously the best team in the league, but I just want Iowa to win as many games as possible going forward, and let the chips fall where they will. If Iowa plays well enough to be in the semis or the finals of the BTT, I honestly don't care who they are playing.

At this point I just want to be firmly in the Big Dance. I think we are there now, but just win one of the next two games to make everyone feel good about a 7 to 10 seed, and from there I'm just going to enjoy the ride.

Wrong. Best case is meeting Wisconsin and beating them. Far better boost to play a good team and win, second best is playing the best team and lose respectfully (not by 32 points), worst case is avoiding the big fish and feasting on cupcakes. Bring on any team, any time, any place should be the mindset of the Hawks right now. Avoiding good teams is like playing to not lose, its not playing to win.

Iowa won't have the choice to avoid any particular team, regardless of their mindset.. They are going to have to play whoever is in front of them. Although I agree that I hope the team has the mindset that they'll take on anyone, and win.

Obviously, beating Wisconsin would be great, but am not sure of the odds of that. Let me put it this way - if Iowa is next to Wisconsin in the bracket, I'll be rooting for them to get upset.

I would rather win the BTT without playing Wisconsin, than lose to them in the semis. Either way, it won't be an easy road, not a "cupcake feast". MD, OSU, MSU, or whoever, Iowa will have to earn it.

If Iowa does play Wisconsin, I much prefer it in the semis than in the final. If it's in the final, that would mean Iowa would be on their 4th game in 4 days, unless they get a double bye.

For some reason, seeing people clamor for another matchup with Wisconsin makes me think of this skit...
