Good grief, college sports at some of these schools is a sham. A complete fraud. If UNC had any integrity, they'd shut down their football and men's basketball programs for a year or two. At least pretend like you give a crap about the academic side of things.

Control-freak coaches suddenly know nothing (or next-to nothing) about this going on at their school. If Williams didn't know, it was because he chose not to know. That is almost as bad as knowing and approving of it.

With all the allegations and evidence that have come out, it seems like an almost certainty that UNC basketball will be barred from post-season play for at least the 2015-2016 season, if not for many other seasons as well. In these kinds of cases, players for whom the post-season ban extends through the remainder of their eligibility (i.e seniors for a 1-year ban, juniors and seniors for a 2-year ban, etc) are usually allowed to transfer anywhere they want and play immediately. This was the case with Silas Redd in football (Penn State to USC), John Lucas III in basketball (Baylor to Oklahoma State), and others.

I wonder if Paige would want to come back home to Iowa to finish out his collegiate career in the event of UNC sanctions?


Also--if UNC is sanctioned between now and the end of December, I wonder if their players would be eligible at other schools as early as next semester? Mid-season free agency would be wild.
 
The case goes back over 20 years so it would include three NCAA basketball titles. Roy Williams has always cheated so this comes as no surprise. The Raef Lafrentz recruitment at Kansas is a prime example.

If you guys think Paige would come to Iowa you are dreaming. If anything happens to UNC he will bolt, but it won't be to another college.
 
What's the problem with no show, no professor classes. It helps prepare you for no show, no boss jobs in life. This has been going on for decades and the NCAA is not going to come down hard on North Carolina. That would be like coming down hard on Ohio State. A program considered to be lesser like an Iowa or a Utah would be given something close to the death penalty.

These high school kids know what schools will be doing for them before they commit to them. I'm sure Page knew that North Carolina takes care of their players. Woodbury probably knew a lot of things about North Carolina the average student wouldn't. Players talk to other players, and I doubt the coaches really have to say much of anything.
 
That's crazy that they got caught... You can't tell me that the SEC schools aren't doing similar things. Especially with football players. So many of those kids can't hardly spell their own name when it comes to signing those oh so costly autographs. Wish those wonderlick test scores the NFL draft has those kids take would be all public.

You only say something this ignorant because you haven't read the Wainstein Report, the Addendum and the 900 page Supplemental Report that has all of the damning emails that show the depth and outright arrogance of the scandal.
Reading the emails won't mean much unless you know who the names in the emails belong to.

It's a crap ton of evidence of systemic fraud. A friend of mine is a tenured professor at the University of Washington. I emailed him to get his response to the fact that the AFAM secretary was making decisions on what classes the dept would offer, who they would allow to take the classes (She referred to it as "controlled enrollment"), what grades would be given, what study/referrence material would be used and taking it upon herself to change grades on completed coursework, after the fact. He couldn't believe it. Even after I showed it to him, he couldn't believe it. He thought those emails were fake.
 
That's why I won't even watch the Iowa/UNC game. The University of Iowa should boycott that game and refuse to play it. I know there's no way in Hades that's happening but they should. I can guarantee you that having refs home cook the calls in that game would be child's play compared to what they have been doing for 20 years+. Mark my words and be prepared to see some egregious officiating that not coincidentally, goes against us.
