A win on the road shooting 36% and being outboarded-gutty

This team for the most part is playing really good defense (cant help it when guys make 25 footers) and making key plays (none bigger than the white steal in OT). It wasnt pretty but they won and last year or the last 7-8 years they would have lost.

They are making some key shots and not letting opponent runs sink them. Gesell and Jok got dinged but hung in there.

Woody just seemed out of it but Gabe filled in.

Uthoff's shooting was off but still 11 pts, 8 bounds, 3 assists and no turnovers, total positive.

White finishing strong.

Ogs, clemmons and Gesell played very good, go hawks beat indy

No fouls call on Pedro State for the thug fouls. Hopefully we go to Craen's house and make him call his plumbers to fix his leaking pants;)

Let me know your perspective but the hawks looked a little slow to start (understandable) then got a groove then PSU couldnt miss and when the hawks were down 12 I thought this is the key time and they got back in the lead at the half.

I thought the way they held it together to finish first half was huge. PSU started the 2nd half strong but the hawks kept fighting. this team is different

This team is tough. Still struggle to shoot at times (though they've gotten a lot better)

exact opposite of last year's team. Just DECIDING they aren't going to lose, and getting it done.

Having White bail them out with his overall game and free throw shooting was the biggest difference. The big guys missed too many bunnies and that's just inexcusable. It was great seeing JO hit 4 shots like that. I had a gut feeling he was going to have a difference making game or play before this year was up. Iowa don't win if he doesn't hit those shots. Big game for him. Hope they can get rested up and bring their A game against Indiana I doubt Iowa can shoot 36% and get out rebounded and beat them.

Yea to this. A good team has guys step up when others are failing. This team has had this happen except for the two bad losses.

Are they tough? They have been the last two. I'm still going to withhold my opinion for now whether the team is tough. But they are tougher than what they were last season for sure.

White has played great and shown leadership during games instead of after games. Big props.

You are right there unless the hawks defense just puts the vice on the hoosiers. they cant let Yogi go off on them and have his way dribbling and penetrating.

I would really love to see the hawks shoot well and make IU miss and get the running game going to give Crean a real beatdown.

Indiana shoots 23 3's a game (ranks 29th), and makes 9 a game (41%), and out of all the FG attempts they shoot, 39% of those shots are 3's and that ranks 61.

Iowa shoots 17 3's a game (ranks 242), and makes 6 a game (34%), and out of all the FG attempts they shoot, 31% of those shots are 3's and that ranks 260.

This is the tale of two different styles of play.....Indiana run and gun from behind the arc, Iowa pound the ball inside and get to the free throw line....Indiana better guard play, Iowa bigger bodies.

I guess what I'm saying is we have to defend that arc on defense, and ultimately rebound a little farther away from the rim, and on offense get that ball inside and take advantage of our height.

This will make for an interesting game that Iowa needs to keep pace with everyone else. This will be another one of those "gut check" times, so we will see who shows up.....

Good win, likely punched our ticket but as I say a lot where the hell was Woody?

I am with you for this game, Woody looked like he was on No-Doze. Guys drove right by him, he wasnt ready for passes, didnt get off the floor for a couple of layups which could have been dunks. Maybe not getting by the penn st big guy early and having a couple early fouls took him out of his game

Yeah, same ol' same ol'...a 60-48 lead with 10 minutes left and we "couldn't close the deal." Oh, wait. Never mind. That was Iowa State.

"By my count, Hawkeyes are 18-1 in games they've scored more than 63 points. Lone loss was to ISU."

I think the above stat is very interesting especially as it relates to the upcoming Indiana game. Hard to believe this game will produce a low scoring affair and based on the above stat you would think our chances are good.........I wouldn't bet that way personally but can't disregard this interesting fact.

My cable package does not include ESPNU, so I had to follow along on ESPN's "Gamecast" and you can see a sentence or two every time something significant happens. I was shocked at how many times the statement "Missed lay-up" showed up for our bigs. It was unbelievable. Now, again, I am not watching it live ... don't know if they were getting hacked, don't know how close these lay-ups were or if they were "off balance" or anything like that, but it was amazing at how many there were.

There were also a lot of "missed tip-ins" on there, too. That can be a crowded type of shot, but it would be interesting to go back and count up all of those.

No team in this country misses more shots from inside of 1 foot than our Hawks. I really wish Woody could dunk from a standstill down there, but clearly he cannot. Aren't there special exercises you can do, and shoes that you can buy that help your leaping ability? Adam must've been sick when they were handing out those shoes.

I think I'm going to start a new thread so this comment may not be worth it but just to be fair to last years team, the competition was much better. The conference lost a lot of good players and is down from last year.
