A tough place for the hawks to win but they did great

Champaign and Assembly Hall have been a hall of horrors for most hawk bball teams as most of you know.

Clemmons and Gesell with 18 pts (17 pt per game avg duo) were dead even with Nunn and Hill 20 pts even though Nunn and Hill avg about 35 pts per game or twice as many per game. Great to see Gesell wait for his 15-17 foot elbow shot off the dribble and he and Clemmons both had some drives that just didnt quite go down.

So great defense by Clemmons and Gesell and the whole team.

Woodbury was great on the glass and is really starting to show some moves like a drop step around the hoop.

And Jok and Uhtoff were awesome although Jarrod didnt even look like he shot that well. Great to see the hawks win by double digits when they didnt seem to have their best offensive game.

Second chance points were 26-6 hawks which just indicates hustle.

I still have to say that going into the semi-stall on the offensive end with little movement and Gesell dribbing out 15-18 seconds out by half court is not great. Or lets say maybe dont start to do it with 3:30 left in the game.

The hawks ran some good plays off of a 3 man weave in the last 10 minutes of the second half which might be their best way to run some clock and look for a layup when the other team over plays.

What accolades and observations did I miss?

It's a great feeling to go into Illinois and blow them out on their home court! What a difference a decade makes.

I think you pretty much nailed it. It was a good game.

Woody was a beast. Again.
Uhtoff's offense seemed a little off. Defense on Hill was great.
Jok is hustling all over the floor.
Clemmons after a rough first two minutes was absolutely tight.
Gesell's defense was good again and the dude is a sniper with the one-dribble 17' elbow shot. I'm good with him shooting that any time.

Bench seemed a little off as well (not saying they were bad, just off a little?); maybe Fran noticed that too and had the starters in with a 16-20 point lead late and maybe why he started to air out the ball earlier? I'm for airing the ball out but maybe starting the play with 12 seconds instead of 8?

No complaints. Good game.
Now to play a great game on Thursday!

My only concern is the 5 minute stretch around the 10 minute mark of the second half where the Hawks didn't score. Against a good team that could have been bad.

Other than that, I'm happy with the win.

GO HAWKS!!!

Didn't hear Fran post game comments.... wonder if he played starters most of 2nd half for conditioning with IU coming up- they have barely played 25 min the last 2 games. Also if Hawks play man the whole game, Illinois wouldn't have had 60. Hawks were using last 10 min as a practice.

Solid week and received DSM NCAA tickets for my B-Day - Go Hawks!!

Yeah, the starters all had 30+ mins today.

Only thing missing would have been a section-Hawkeye-payback to offset what they did to us in CHA a few years back.

I agree. Not trying to nitpick because I'm pretty sure it was without Jok and Uthoff. Although Fran does an excellent job with his rotations, I hope he scratches a lineup in which they aren't on the floor. The offense totally lacked flow. Saw a lot of contested jump shots. I can't remember who was on the floor at the time, but I specifically remember Uhl being forced to take a couple contested jumpers late in the shot clock. I'd like to see him take those slower guys off the dribble.

I realize that lineup in unlikely to appear in important games
