A tough loss

There is a lot of basketball yet to be played and an NCAA tournament to set as a goal to make. It's not likely at this point that Iowa will contend for a Big Ten conference title we will have a good chance at a Big Ten tournament title however and our depth should pay off then.

This was a loss due to a combination of things. I was disappointed to not see our seniors step up and do a better job of leadership. This is the time of the year where that should shine through and we just didn't see it in this game.

Missed free throws again were a dagger in our heart and a horrid shooting night from the outside. All the offensive weapontry we supposivly have and we could not buy an outside shot. Even so I would have liked Iowa taking a three point shot at the end of the game rather than Gesell driving into the lane against their bigs. Even if the officials called the foul there what are the chances of him making both of the pressure free throws?

It will be interesting to see who steps forward next season to be a leader when Marble is gone. I would guess White but tonight that person never stepped forward when someone was needed.

Even though the officials missed a few calls tonight, it was a pretty good called game. If not for the free throws we did get to take and make we would not have been in this game. What was it at one time thirteen minutes without a field goal. No team deserves to win when shooting that poorly. Yet we were one three point shot away from a win. How freakish is that?

Dispite the disappointment there is a lot of basketball to be played and hopefully a lot to enjoy. It has often been said that a lot more is learned from a tough loss than from an easy win. The most important thing the players can focus on is getting better and improving as much as possible in preparation for the Big Ten Tournament and the NCAA tournament.

Go hawks and win the next one!!!!!

I was able to watch the game but not able to post. Almost glad I couldn't follow the game thread. Things got ugly towards the end of the game and the way the comments were crucifying the Hawks and the people done watching the team I thought I went to Cyclone Fanatic. It was an incredibly frustrating loss. To go without a field goal for 14 minutes or whatever it was is ridiculous. Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Purdue and Ohio State all play the game of fouling on every play and hope it throws off the shooters or hurts someone. They don't coach basketball the way it's supposed to be played and the Big 10 office won't change the way the games are officiated. They're content to use the thug basketball and tell each other how good they are and after the NCAA tournament wonder why the didn't win. Michigan probably plays the least of the hack a player, any player than the others I mentioned and maybe that's why they almost won last year. Most of the time the refs in the tournament won't let the thug theory go and that's why the Big 10 won't win the whole thing. Sadly, for ISU fans it won't work for them either. It was a tough loss but I refuse to blame the free throw shooting because we had a huge edge in shots attempted and made. The real problem was our inability to make a field goal and not being able to keep MSU off the offensive boards, just my thoughts.

What a freak game. How do you stay in a game against the seventh rated team in the country and not make a field goal for 14 minutes or however long it was?

Don't want to start a separate thread, but did Appling really say something about being better than Devyn to Roy going into halftime. If he did, what a classless Punk.....

Absolutely no respect for him and a little anger over his tastelessness.....

Izzo's Punk Thug Training, no different than Cincinnati.....
