I recently spent 3 hours in the University of Iowa Sports Medicin Clinic and came across an old SI featuring JoePa. In the article it related how JoePa lost his coaches poll vote.
Following the 2004 season there were 3 undefeated teams. JoePa voted them all number 1 in the USA Today coaches poll. They called him up and said you can't do that, you have to vote them either 1, 2, or 3. He said he couldn't do that as it wouldn't be fair to any of them, they were all undefeated and his eyes they were all equally good. The USA Today responded by threatening to take his coaches poll vote away. He said you can have it.
I guess you could say he was making a statment as hes had something like 4 teams go undefeated that DIDN'T win a national title due to the voting process (pretty unbelievable) but I still think thats a pretty cool story.
