a little over 52 hrs

What's going to be the difference between the football and basketball seasons? Both will likely be mediocre teams.

The basketball team is fun to watch and Fran actually coaches to win. Fran also benches players when they are not playing well or putting forth the effort.

I have been a consistent Ferentz apologist, but I agree with this post. Fran is building something right now. It will take time, but you can see what a great coach he is.

Coach Ferentz is a great coach as well, but I'm starting to wonder if he is burned out at Iowa. The fire just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

he coaches to win, he also is not afraid of winning by50-60 pts, and i bet he goes to bed with a clear conscious at night nor fretts about how embarressed the other team felt by a blowout loss, unlike KF who lets inferior teams stay within 10 pts, so he doesn't hurt their feelings;

this BB team will lose some games but it won't be for lack of effort;

47 hrs 52 minutes til the next game

Never thought I would see a thread like this but I agree. It is officially basketball season.

I'm frustrated with Iowa and I prefer Fran's aggressive approach, but I can't agree with this statement

"Coach Ferentz is a great coach as well, but I'm starting to wonder if he is burned out at Iowa. The fire just doesn't seem to be there anymore."

Ferentz chews his fair share of ***. Mostly players, but today officials as well.

Kirk was hammering the refs today ,with good reason. Witovet and co. absolutely sucked. KF has not lost his passion...he was the same guy 13 years ago. I like Fran but how bout we wait til he has a winning season before declaring him better than a football coach who is 2nd alltime in Iowa history for wins? Short memories around here. A BCS bowl is like an elite eight in bb....when Fran makes the elite eight a couple of times,and wins the big ten a couple of times,he might be on par with KF.

Comparing basketball and football is silly. Football you have to find about 60 guys who are top of their game to win. In football you need about 8 or 9. Basically you need as many quality O linemen as you need an entire hoops team.

In football you get a couple of patsies. In Basketball you get ten or so.

That being said, these first 10 hoops games are going to help.

But also, just like KF going into this season with a weak front seven, Fran is going into this season with only one true B1G PG.

the difference beween KF and FM are huge, KF is to conservative and lets teams stay close, that have no business being close, KF reluctance to substitute players is also a glaring weakness and as you point out he has a roster of 85 players, we have i believe 7 RB but plays one, FM has 11 scholarship players at present with one injured, but does have 4-5 walk-ons, in the games we have and will see he will play the majority of his Scholarship players and 2-3 of the walk-ons, and plays uptempo and i highly doubt that you will see a inferior team be within 40 pts,
sorry to say the game of football is changing and KF is not changing with it
also in away you can compare the 2, the Center is like the O-L & D-L and has to play both, the PF can be compared to the TE and a MLB on defense, he SF is like the WR & OLB, the SG can be compared to the RB & DB'S, and the PT guard is the QB of the team
this might be a bit of a reach, but i think is a good way of comparing the two
in basketball the players have to play both defense and offense, very rarely will you see FB players doing this

Being the second winning coach is football is not exactly a great feat. If people can't tell the difference between and Fran and KF they are struggling. I said last year that Iowa hoops makes sweet 16 before they get to another Bcs game.

What are you trying to say here?

He's saying Iowa doesn't have a great tradition of good head coaches.

Success in the 50s then terrible until Fry. Ferentz followed him.
