A little Basabe goes a long ways

22 points, 13 reb, 6 blocks. Mel impressed me a lot more than Sullinger last night. Basabe swatted Jarred several times and had a very sweet one-handed jam that got the crowd going. Cant wait to watch him play with Aaron "the ginger" White next year.

No offense to Mel cuz the kid is a baller, but I'll take off the black n gold tinted glasses and take Sullinger all day. He looked like a man amongst boys out there last night.

I've watched Sullinger quite a bit this season and he is a man under the basket. I just felt like Basabe outplayed him the other night.

Sullinger: 38 minutes, 24 pts, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals
Basabe: 32 minutes, 22 pts, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks

If you look at Sullingers numbers from the rest of the season, I think Mel did as good a job of slowing him down as anyone has. Add to that what Mel did on the offensive end, and it was a very impressive performance.

Sullinger will fade out of the NBA for one reason, height. He has the build and the ability but he doesn't stand a chance against guys that will tower over him. He is one of those players that dominates in college but he won't make it in the NBA. Also, i counted many times that fouls were called on our guys when they were guarding Sullinger and they didn't make sense. One was called on Cole where Sullinger was backing into Cole it was just good D but they called the foul. It seems like the refs want to call everything for Sullinger because they anticipate he will be fouled. Basabe will develop really well too. Can't wait to see this matchup again.

If Sullinger is an NBA bust, it won't be because of his height. It will be because he's fat and slow.

Sullinger is the main reason that OSU is ranked #2 and undefeated. Everyone knows that have good perimiter players that can fill it up from the outside, but Sullinger gives them that inside presence that makes them a very good team. If you try and play one guy on him he will abuse you (just like he did Iowa early in the 2nd half). If you double him, he is a good passer and can kick out to shooters.

I agree that he got a couple of questionable calls, but when you are that physical all the time, you are going to get the benefit a lot of times.

He has great touch around the hope, he passes well, he has great hands, he is a good free throw shooter and he rebounds well. He is a very good college player and will project well in the NBA.

Glen Davis is who I was thinking of when watching Sullinger and thinking of how he will do in the NBA. He won't be a stand out star but will be a good backup who can get it done inside with toughness.

Or Carlos Boozer, or Amare Staudemire, Josh Smith or Dennis Rodman, or Charles Barkley

There have been plenty of good 6'9 power forwards in the NBA and in NBA history. Height won't be his problem.

Amare Stoudemire is 6'11" and 245 pounds. Pretty much the average size for an NBA PF. Dennis Rodman was 6'7" 210 pounds. He was undersized but rebounded like a madman. He was about the same size as Jordan.

Yeah, I knew Amare was taller. I don't know why I put him, he was just on my mind I guess. My point stands though. Sullinger's issue won't be size.

Nice punny post/thread title!

I only wish Basabe played back in the day, against Glen Rice, or (Fortune) Cookie Belcher.
