First and foremost...
* Glad we didn't let Wisconsin beat us twice. It was glaringly apparent right away that we came to play. Credit to the leadership, whether it be the staff or the seniors...
* James Morris is going to be a stud. 10 tackles today, including a huge 3rd down and short stop where he stood up the MSU RB (I don't remember which one) right in the hole and forced a punt.
* How many times can a team call double slants on 3rd and short? And how many times were we going to give an 8 yard cushion on 3rd and 3? I know it didn't really end up hurting us, but man it was frustrating while it lasted.
* Ty Sash - Option QB! Actually the MSU receiver almost turned that play from great to poor...but I'm not going to argue with the result!
* Kickoff coverage looked pretty good today. DiBona nearly decapitated an MSU returner once, I specifically recall one kick that we hung WAY up in the air to use the wind in our favor, and we generally stayed in our lanes pretty well. Mad kudos to the punt coverage team and Donahue also...they were on point all day long.
* Stanzi was efficient today. I can only think of two bad throws off the top of my head and one of those Herman fought for and turned into a huge play. The other was the throw to DJK into the wind, into double coverage. I think Millen hit it on the head during the game...he throws it out in front, it's 6. Other than that he made the throws he had to make and made pretty good decisions. Also, his elusiveness within the pocket was fantastic.
* Stanzi's elusiveness brings me to ARob. He ran hard, he blocked well, and he STUCK Greg Jones on that 29 yard run by Stanzi in the first quarter. He took a couple good shots today, fumbled for the first time all year, and didn't have a sexy statline, but one can't overstate his toughness today (and all season really).
* Brad Herman - CJ Who?
Both TE's played a good game today, but Herman gets special mention because of his increased production in the passing game.
* I was bummed that DJK didn't have a catch and is almost a lock to break the all-time receptions record on the road. I was hoping we'd put him in and run a little screen or short pass to him to get the record, but it was not to be. If McNutt's reverse pass isn't so errant, he breaks it in style.
* It would have been nice to see Stanzi out of the game early...even if JVB couldn't go, Weinke could have been charged with handing off the rest of the game. The chances of injury aren't high, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. Hope Vandervelde's injury isn't serious...
* I still can't believe that game was as one-sided as it was.
