a calmer view

We have to run the ball better. If this is ol, rb blocking or play calls that loosen the run game up. It could be all of them together, there is enough blame to go around that is for sure.
We stalled in the red zone because we could not run it. All the games we lost were because we could not run it. Well msu, osu and wisky all have decent run d,s. We know how they turned out. It always comes down to coaching. If we dont have thr horses to get it done, then i expect impact players to be recruited.

No its not working. Lets look at what is working... not a god darn thing, thats what.
i was glad to see kf put jc in, got to use your weapons. If something is not working try something different.
If we could have punched it in on those three drives and ate clock in all of our losses, they may have turned out different. Ofcourse that means doing it for an entire game.

Weisman had a lot of his success last year on stretch plays. The problem is that this year he is hurt, and for some reason we now ONLY run the stretch. The stretch compliments the inside zone, we shouldn't run it exclusively.

This is not rocket science. You dont use a hammer to hit a nail from the side. If your playing a team with fast yet smaller backers and secondary, up the gut and when mark gets a one on one he needs to truck them. Run stretch plays with speed. About the time they think they know whats coming throw in a back that can do both. Or just go nuts and call what they do not expect like speed up the gut. When they have been softened up ofcourse. Put mark in as a fb with another back and you have just doubled your options. My god man, its just football, use your weapons to their max potential.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I had Wisconsin fans sitting next to me calling our plays, that's how predictable it was. The were mocking Iowa's offense for running the slow stretch with MW. Once Jordan got in the game we had a little more success with it. If they insist on running that play, maybe he should play more?

Watching this reminds me of a old 8 cylinder car i had. It was fast and ran great. I did a tune up on it and switched two spark plug wires around (cut me some slack i was 16), man it ran like crap when it was only firing on 6 cylinders. But what do i know.

My guess is that the coaches don't have confidence in our guards to run the inside zone very much.

No, we didn't have more success with it, we just ran a different play. I can't think of a single outside stretch play that went for more than three yards. In fact, the only times Iowa moved the ball at all with the run was when they put a fullback in the game and went to the inside and even that got blown up on fourth down.

Sounds simple, but the problem is teams can stack the box and stop the run because we can't make them pay for it with the passing game. By taking away the run game it's harder to sell the play action, thereby taking away 65% of our offense.

Until teams have to respect our mid to deep range passing game, our run game is going to suffer.

Iowa lost this game with 1 horrific INT and a fluke INT, both deep in their own territory. Offensively, was a comedy of not taking advantage of field position, but the game was lost on the 2 interceptions.

Several responses here. Why dont they have faith in the guards? Undersized? Recruit better. Under coached? Coach better.
Run a fb and a rb? What an idea. How about a rb and a fb who can play rb? Double the options.
We have several te's who can drag lb's with them and open the run game. We may not bust forty yarders but 7 and 8the yarders keep the chains moving and eats clock. Why cant our big te's truck a lb? They sure try and put a hurt on our te's so drag them out and throw a heck of a block now and again. Like i said plenty of blame to go around. Takes a whole o working together to run the ball and if one spot lacks a little, shore it up with some help.

Couldn't disagree more. The offense had field possession on Wisconsin's side of the field their first 4 possessions and could only put up 3 points. "Fluke" INT's had very little to do with Iowa's loss yesterday.

If Weisman is hurt DON'T PLAY HIM!

What happened to the plan to put Bullock in the slot? Why don't we use Canzeri as a change of pace more? Put him in the slot? Why don't we utilize our tight ends? Ugh...Iowa offense or lack thereof is just pathetic.

I accept KF conservatism more than most people.

But one thing I cannot understand, in the truest sense of the word, is KF continuing to run guys like Weisman and ARob out there when they are injured and can't help the team. Weisman needs to be shut down until he is healthy. Running him 9 carries for 21 yards every week is killing us and not helping Weisman.

First of all, Boffeli has struggled mightily all season. He's played inconsistently, had some bad penalties, etc. Walsh is getting there, but it's still not fully clicking. Often times this coaching staff likes to recruit good guards and turn them into Tackles; first example I can think of is Bryan Bulaga. Additionally, Walsh was injured on Saturday, so this could be another reason the confidence in the guard play was lacking.
