If the $$$ are there it will happen, and yes it will water the regular season down even more than it already is.

Everyone remembers Lutes legendary 1980 final four team, but few remember how we all held our breath wondering if Iowa was going to even get in. We were basically a .500 league team without Lester, and back then with only 48 berths (and that was the year they expanded it from 40), at large bids were at a premium.

1980 Iowa would get in easily today, and sub .500 teams would get in at 90 teams, but they tied for fourth in their league that year and it wasn't a slam dunk.

On top of it being senior day, perhaps that's why Lute started Ronnie in the conference finale. To show the committee that he was going to play.

Haven’t read the article I am guessing the regular season and the conference tourney champs get automatic bids. I would be okay with that part of it.
