8-4 and off to the Music City Bowl....

I know we all had high hopes for this years team, but will it be a total bust if they go 8-4, go to the Music City Bowl and beat an SEC team to finish 9-4? I can live with that (especially if they could play and beat Arkansas, which probably won't happen)...

Hasn't been the yr we hoped for but I think they showed some heart and more fight then we have seen in a while. 9-4 sounds better than it looked like we may end up.

If they do end up 8-4 and win a decent bowl game, no the season wouldn't be a bust. I had expected (hoped) we'd end up at 9 wins regular season at the start of the season. That said, this team is certainly frustrating. We get curbstomped by Penn State, but play well and beat Michigan. We kept it somewhat close with Wisconsin, but struggled against teams like Rutgers.

If they end up 9-4 with three of the last four wins being Michigan, Nebraska, and an SEC team in a bowl game, then yeah, I would feel generally positive about the season

If you told me 8-4 before the season, I'd say hugely dissappointing.

8-4 now...pretty decent.

7-5 or less still dissappointing.

Huge huge win tonight...huge.

I have such a tough time getting away from what 'could have been' I'm so disappointed in the overall play of the Oline and inconsistent play of the defense (prior to the last two weeks) that I don't think there's much of a 'salvaging' of the season to be had for me. I really thought 3 losses was the floor for this team coming into the year. But look at how big of a deal Texas is making over them losing to Kansas... Why haven't we done the same for us losing to NDSU (granted NDSU is better than Kansas but my point is obvious) That's not a game at home that should have been lost. Period. And NW isn't exactly a world beater this year either. So I'm not putting any lipstick on this season as much as I hope they finish it strong I just have a tough time doing it.

If we do end up with 8 or 9 wins, I will be happy with the final record. What I will never be happy about with this team is the offense. There is simply no excuse for the level at which we have played this year, and I don't think it has a lot to do with lack of talent. Sure, injuries hurt our production. But, we have overcome injuries before.

Its the scheme and the coaching on the offensive side that need to be completely overhauled. It starts with the coordinator. And, KF needs to hire an innovative replacement and then listen to him.

Finally, we have gone from one of our highest ratings in a long time with our 2017 recruiting class to one of the lowest rated classes in the BT. We can talk a long time about the policy that Iowa has for committed recruits. Instead, we should be talking about the fact that our offensive scheme and the results of that "policy" are the real culprits.

Gut is telling me Iowa win Friday and Holiday Bowl berth.

This year, you have Minnesota, which has the appeal of Kent "Flounder" Dorfman.
Yes, his Dad was a Delta House legend and his forefathers were legendary in the 1920s and 1930s, but, today, they only bring 2,000 fans to bowl games.

The Holiday Bowl will probably get Iowa, as enough snowbirds in the area will make the Bowl Committee happy.
The Music City Bowl has a bowl eligible Kentucky team, who will bring 40k to Nashville.
They'll accept Minnesota, as Kentucky fans will make them more than happy.

Sounds like something you'd hear in Ames. One game...does not a season make.
Disagree. This team played without its top 2 receivers for the second half of the season and will still go to a good bowl game. Ignoring Greg Davis, this has been an excellent coaching job by Kirk Ferentz and Iowa is playing their best football right now

I'll still somewhat bemoan what might have been with the winnable games against NDSU and NW. But we also stole one against Mich that we maybe shouldn't have. All in all, I can't be too upset with a 9 win season and a bowl game win over a P5 school.....

I'm on the same page with all of this. If you told me after the PSU game that a 9 win season was even possible, I would have taken it. Our offense is setting back the sport of football 20 years.
