6-foot-6 guard Moore could replace Hubbard

If anyone's looking for a silver lining here, it turns out that the business about Moore only playing two years of organized basketball isn't true. That news report mentions him playing varsity as a sophomore and makes no mention of that being his first year.

Does Pat Harty know how to use google? There are some pretty important aspects to this kid's story that might have been interesting to note in an article for Hawk fans, especially given the Hubbard situation. But why google when you can just call up Van Coleman?

Assuming this kid is not a trainwreck of off the court issues, he might be worth a look, but I am not holding my breath. For all the praise I gave McCaffrey and his staff for finding Cartwright last season, they pretty much sucked this year at the guard spot.

I can't imagine there isn't a serviceable or better juco PG out there somewhere that doesn't have a rap sheet and is looking for a last minute home. We aren't exactly recruiting 4 star kids to begin with, so a Justin Johnson, Chauncey Leslie type player would be fine with me. Kirkwood, Indian Hills, MCC...I would think one of these programs might yield a player or two for Iowa. Maybe I am underestimating the "issues" many juco players have.

Hubbard had a hitch in his shot, but at least he could get it off. This kid has a slower release than me, and i suck.

Good point but Hubbard's shot looked substandard to me-I mean he looked like a 60% FT shooter- and this guy's shot, while slow, has better form.

Oh well, like other people are saying-he's not exactly a lock to come to Iowa anyway so it's probably moot.

Here's a link to an ESPN Insider article from a couple weeks ago that gives Moore some good praise.

McKenzie Moore should start piling up offers - ESPN

And here is his ESPNU profile. He is listed as a 90-grade 3* but there's nothing else there. I'll keep working.

Checking some other message boards, I see that Moore was once a St. Mary's College commit.

I'm seeing lots of message board chatter on other sites saying Moore could go to prep school for a year in order to expand his recruiting options and get better offers.

Now the twitterverse is saying Moore hasn't opened up his recruitment and he's committed to St. Mary's.

This might be much ado about nothing.
