Let’s all get honest here: C.J. Beathard should be starting at quarterback for Iowa when the Hawkeyes kickoff at Purdue. All he did was take over for an injured Jake Rudock in the second half last week and guide Iowa to what could end up being a season-defining victory at Pitt. Beathard hit 7-of-8 passes for 98 yards vs. the Panthers. He can pass downfield. Rudock can’t. And this offense needs a legit vertical threat so defenses can’t gang up on the Hawkeye rushing game. You think it was a coincidence that Mark Weisman ran for a season-high 88 yards last week vs. Pitt? - See more at: http://btn.com/2014/09/26/4th-long-...redictions-observations/#sthash.OjoFWRVt.dpuf

First let me say I agree 1000% with CJ getting the start and also do think he is our best QB, That said the above is so poorly written and I'm not here to defend JR. To say JR can't throw downfield is ridiculous, does he throw a deep ball like CJ can or with the quick release nope JR doesn't have that arm, but it's not like he can't go vertical, JR for the most part chooses not too. JR early in Pitt game hit Powell with a perfectly thrown ball and he flat out dropped a sure TD. Also To say CJ opened up the lanes for Wiseman is not entirely accurate because Iowa opened the game with the Vertical Attack and never stopped going vertical.

Weisman averaged 3.5 yards per carry in the second half. Its not like the running game broke out when CJB was in.

I'm in favor of CJB starting, but lets not believe a false narrative.

This. JR took some shots down field and hit both Powell and Vandy. Vandy caught it and Powell didn't. That said, CJ gives us a better chance to win. I think we may be able to agree that JR made an effort to throw it up field last game which is great. I feel better now knowing that JR knows he has to go for shots and trust in the WRs to make a play.
