4-Star GA SG Alex O’Connell Picks Up Iowa Offer, Expects to Visit

Looks like the type of player Fran likes...

6'6, long and lean but looks like a shooter, probably wants him to add 15-20 pounds of strength as he continues to mature.

He is a very interesting prospect. A good shooter who kinda has an old man's game where he knows to just pay the ball up. But he is also athletic enough for some big slams. He almost reminds me of Peter Jok when he was in high school.

His shot reminds me of Moss. The form, jumps forward a lot and really uses his legs to elevate on the release. Both have the same form shooting from 7 ft away as they do 30 ft away.

We don't have any specific need, Fran once again looking at best player available, I like it.

That seems to be Fran's approach. I thought we would seek bigs, but maybe it us just about the best guy we can get regardless of need. I don't agree, but I'm also not the expert.

The guy is six ft six and a senior in high school. He could be six ft eight by the time he gets to college. I'm sure Fran is looking for a quality big man, but if you can find a quality player that is six ft six or over that sounds pretty good. College basketball isn't the NBA. An athletic six ft six guy can guard a guy six ft nine that isn't that athletic. Iowa already has five guys that are pretty wide body, and they are only going to get stronger every year. It sounds like Fran is trying to recruit guys that can put a lot of pressure on the other team both offensively and defensively. They should be fun to watch.

I still would like a top notch PG, but I'm basically on board with the "get the best players you can" mentality. At the end of the day, I'd rather have several talented players and be a bit thin in a certain area, than lack talent and have every position covered, 1-5.
