It's been interesting to see the shift in how kids no longer are fans of teams really. He just flat out said as much and it seems like more and more are like that. They are fans of Lebron, Steph and other players. Not so much any teams. Which when I grew up it was the Hawkeyes for me and the Bulls in hoops. Of course BJ going to the Bulls about that time of my childhood had something to do with that. ( and some guy named Jordan) But I never jumped off the wagons it's always been them. The older I've gotten the less into the pros I care about but I'm as die hard as ever about my Hawks. I'm not sure if kids being less fans of teams is a good thing or not when it comes to Iowa and recruiting. I think it's just too bad that kids don't get to enjoy the ups and downs of their emotions when your all in with a team is all...
We tell our kids to try and keep away from favoring college teams. Tell them not to wear apparel. If college coaches see them wearing it, they might not waste time offering a scholarship. It's been interesting to see the shift in how kids no longer are fans of teams really. I think it may have a lot to do with social media and AAU. From younger and younger ages these kids are treated more like NBA free agents than they are kids when it comes to how they are recruited (to a large degree it’s the parents getting recruited too) at the AAU level. And when they get to HS they also jump from school to school. So kids at that level just don’t have all that much of a sense of attachment to a team. It’s so individualized that it’s easy to see how kids have a tough time coming back to a team type of mindset. It’s crazy how fast things changed in the last 20-30 years.nice observation.
