Would be a huge get. And you just never know. He'd almost certainly see the field sooner at Iowa which might be tempting.

Less excited after reading his comments... But maybe I'm not understanding how this whole recruiting thing works.

He said he would check out the SEC schools because they are local.

If Iowa offered him a scholarship and if he were really interested, wouldn't he at least take an official visit?

He kinda said he's not really planning on visiting and waiting for a Bama offer. Recruiting out of the south is pretty hard for a big ten team

Starting the '15 cycle, Iowa began casting a much wider net with upwards of 200 or so offers. That's a lot of guys that won't end up here.

For Iowa to recruit out of the region (and even in it), it helps greatly to have a tie-in. This kid has family in Cedar Rapids and Cresco that he's visited throughout the years. So, you throw the line in the water and see if you can hook him. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and the risk here is minimal. If he stays South, you move on.
