Though, I kind of think finishing in second, by a game and then beating the first place team twice and winning the tournament should be deserving of at least and asterisk or something.

Pre-Tiger Hawk days. Hayden rolled out the Tiger Hawk fall of 1979. Loved those unis, "HAWKS". Pretty much completely awesome. Iowa shared the title that year with Purdue and Michigan State - Magic Johnson era. Little recalled fact, Wes Matthews from Wisconsin made a half court shot at the buzzer for Wisconsin to beat Michigan State in the last conference game of the season to allow Iowa and Purdue to share in the title. Hawks went on to lose to Toledo in the first round of the NCAA - after leading by double digits for much of the game.

I have watched/listened to/attended every meaningful Iowa basketball game (even the un-meaningful ones) since I was 7. I have never seen Iowa win a big ten basketball championship (34 now). I am beginning to think a big ten bball title is much more difficult than a fb title (at least I have witnessed 4 of thems)

You had to win the conference to make it to the NCAA tournament field of 32. Unfortunately Iowa lost a heart breaker in the first round.

For me winning the regular season title would have more meaning than making the NCAA tournament. I think making it to the field of 64/68 isn't the accomplishment that a regular conference championship is.

Wow that's crazy Waiter, Kraf, Arnold and Lester I recognize. Who is the guard next to Arnold can't think of his name. We played a bunch out to Townsend after our college days were over.
