3-4 D in 2012?

What do you all think about Iowa switching to a 3-4 next year? To me it seems like there is more depth and talent with the linebackers. It might be a good way to get more on the field. Along with getting more speed on the field to chase down qbs. Fry changed his formation for a year or two. This might be a good time also.

Who would play nose tackle? No one on this team handle that, this team's DL already struggles enough. I don't think a 3-4 defense would solve the issue. That would put more pressure on the linebackers to shed blocks and get disengaged from the o-lineman and they struggle horribly with that.

Yeah, there are very few players each year that have that size and skill set. Iowa is never going to get a guy like that. Alabama, LSU, OSU, Michigan are the schools kids of that size and skill set want to go.

Plus how you convince them otherwise, come to Iowa we might player 3-4 defense for a year or two, then go back to 4-3. We will just move you over. Kids who can play that position and play it well know they are going to make it to the NFL.

Ferentz makes changes about as often as the Vatican. Not happening.
 
I'm sure after the coaches implement the new hurry up, Oregon style of offense, they will focus on switching to a 3-4.
 
Iowa will stay in the 4-3 defense with mixing in the nickel and dime packages but beyond that, it just isn't going to happen.

We don't have the right type of linemen...so no

Our coaches don't know how to teach it as it is a completely different style of play than what we are accustomed...so no

Don't bring up that we already use some 3-4 because what we use is actually more of a nickel/dime/prevent package that is just a 3 man rush to put more defenders out in zones...so no
 
How dare the OP even bring up a suggestion for change....KF has his opponents right where he wants 'em...;)

Lets be honest, KF doesn't care where his opponents are because his style is all based on smart assignment football, strong fundamentals and execution.

We can all make fun of it and **** and moan about it but that is what he is married to doing.
