2019 talent

I think we will return a lot of talent and experience in 2020 even if we do lose a few guys early. I think Golston returns and potentially Alaric Jackson but I’ll assume they don’t below.

3rd year starters in 2020:
-Sargent / Young / IKM
-ISM
-B Smith
-Barnwart
-Niemann
-Colbert
-Hankins
-Stone

3rd year experienced players:
-Brents (potentially 3rd year starter)
-Kallenberger

2nd year starters:
-Tracy / Ragaini
-Beyer
-Linderbaum
-DJ Johnson
-Merriweather

2nd year experienced players:
-Nixon
-Shannon
-Waggoner
-Van Valkenburg

Yes, we will lose underclassmen Epenesa, Golston, Alaric Jackson, and Tristan Wirfs. We'll also lose Lattimore and Reiff. That's two years in a row of losing the entire starting defensive front, plus underclassmen OTs. Iowa's not built for this.

I think what really hurts is the early departures. That being said...our recruiting over the past 3-4 years is much, much better. Think about the OL classes we have brought in. Some really highly rated guys, Kallenberger, Ezra, and others. Kallenbergers going to be tough to keep out of the lineup this year...and he moves to tackle in 2020. Ezra will be ready to start in 2020..he already has the size...he doesn't need to grow into anything. Banwart will be here, Linderbaum has a huge upside...the OL makes the offense go...that's going to be solid in 2020 even without the losses.

I just go back to the wins we have had on the DL...Nixon, Shannon, Waggoner, the transfer this year, etc. These guys are going to be studs. There will also be a few transfers just like what's happening this year. In the defensive backfield, you are loaded for the next three or four years.

In my opinion...there has been a noticeable uptick in getting the guys we want, and it's happening earlier in the process...see the commit list this year. Listen...when these recruits get together on the 21st of June and they see the 10 commits that are already in the bag...there will be some guys committing on the spot that weekend. KF already has a lot of hay in the barn this year. How's that for a farm analogy.
