2017 Team Recruiting Ranking

So with the verbal of Ivory Kelly-Martin, that moves Iowa 2017 team recruiting ranking up to #12 in the Rival rankings, #11 on 247, and #15 on Scout. This could end up being (on paper anyway) one of the best Iowa classes in a decade. Hopefully the ranking will get a even bigger boost if Eno Benjamin commits in a couple weeks.

EDIT: I see Scout is slow to update some ranking. They have Juan Harris, Jacob Coons, and Coy Kirkpatrick all as 2* recruits. Woozer, that is way off.

I don't want to be one of those conspiracy guys, but if some of these guys committed to other programs there is 0 chance they would be 2* recruits. It's like Scout doesn't know that much about them, looks at where they committed and says meh, they must be 2* guys.

I could understand with Coons and Kirkpatrick.....but Harris?? He is a national recruit with offers from Michigan and Texas, no excuse for that one.

I'm not gonna lie. Harris worries me. I hope I'm wrong and he ends up being a stud for the Hawks. Lord knows they can use a giant plug on the defensive line. Especially in combination with some of the other guys who would be lining up next to him. You put a dude like that in the middle who can consistently demand double teams and it gives the players around him a little more latitude to make plays. I just have a bad feeling he isn't going to end up on the field for one reason or another. Whether it's conditioning or grades or off the field stuff I don't know. Not really any justification for my bad feeling either. Hope he proves me wrong.

Personally, I think Austin Schulte is the under the radar kid who is going to surprise a lot of people. If he can get that knee fully healthy. I have family in Pella and they have nothing but good things to say about him.

Recruiting rankings...........Iowa is off to a good start but unfortunately the rating services also use the number of signees as a factor in their formulas. With 2017 being a small class we will be hard pressed to hold our status in the long run as others add players. Regardless, we're off to a good start and hopefully we can build our quality and have one of our stronger classes in many years.

I agree. How many kids can we have for this class?

No doubt. That kind of stuff has been going on for years. No big deal. Although I did laugh out loud at the idea of Harris being a 2 star ;)

Yeah I'm with you on Harris. Be it his drama with his on and off again committing or his weight there's just something that don't feel right. And like you I feel like we might and hopefully are wrong but it's just a weird feeling I have about him too... I think the ball is in his court though. If he comes in with the right attitude and accepts coaching he can be as good as he wants to be. If he can get his weight as close to 320/330 as possible he's just going to be a monster. If he keeps it hovering over 350-360 plus I just don't see how he'll be able to play a significant amount of snaps...
