2016 Iowa Football Spring Depth Chart

Pretty good core group of guys returning but it sure would look a lot better if we could put Drew Ott in it!!

Daniels, Mabin, and Niemann are out for the Spring due to off season surgeries. Should be back this summer.

Edit: Mitchell also being withheld

WOW, were is Daniels on the OL??
He's out all spring recovering from surgery I think he'll be ready by fall.... I'm more curious about how Welsh is expected to play both center and RG in the mean time...haha.

What I hadn't heard yet is anything at all about Mabin is he recovering from something too? His absence is pretty notable. I think Fleming should be decent since this is his SR yr. But I think we'd all agree having Mabin out there and the depth being what it is behind them being so green we need all the experienced bodies on deck.

James Daniels is missing some spring practice, I believe due to injury. I like the WR group too. Vandeberg did a great job last year he is back, as well as Falconer, Parker, Scheel and Smith moving up the charts. They are talented young receivers that can stretch the field while Vandeberg and the tight ends pick them apart underneath.

Wide receiver (and the use there of) continues to be a weakness for KFz teams.

Expect more of the same with the offense. We don't know what to expect out of the WR. Riley and Matt are good possession WR, but they aren't going to scare anyone.

The OL....just have to hope they keep getting better. Center and LT are scary right now with lack of experience.

The lack of James Daniels, Greg Mabin, and Ben Neiman on this list is pretty scary. Hopefully it is just injuries?

Also, with Neiman not on the chart, Bower becomes OLB. Bower is not listed on 2-deeps for WLB, where I thought he'd be competing for a spot. Instead it's Mends and Hockaday. Very interdasting

I'd love for them to really drill Bower as a rush-end on passing downs. He's got decent size and get off. Nelson and Hesse aren't going to generate a consistent pass rush.

But Drew Ott will if the NCAA finally tells him he can play.

We're returning 5 guys who all either started/saw extensive playing time last year off a line that was pretty good when healthy. Experience i'm not worried about, it's the depth that always concerns me with iowa.

biggest position question marks for next year are DE and WR. I'm hoping falconer/scheel see time over mccarron. does anyone know how ogwu has done as well?

Croston got more playing time at LT than anyone else last year, so we are a lot more experienced at LT going into this year than last...

I like what I see at WR. Maybe Parker will be used in more than just a couple jet sweeps this year. If he can catch the ball, his speed could be a valuable asset. I'm also anxious to see how those sophomores fare at placekicker.
