Wadley (2872 career yards, 28 rushing TDs, plus 761 yds receiving and 7 TDs)
Daniels, Jr. (1895 career yards, 19 rushing TDs)
Canzeri (2073 career yards, 14 rushing TDs, plus 420 yds receiving and 3 TDs)

Daniels, Jr. played sparingly in a handful of games for the Redskins last year. I think Wadley will definitely carve out a valuable role for an NFL team. Canzeri had NFL tryouts, but never made a team, I am guessing durability concerns being a key factor. I think "peak Canzeri" might even be the best of this bunch, though we only got to see it sparingly.

What would be the main competition? Green/Hampton and Russell/Lewis come to mind. Who did Albert Young overlap with?

Even though they got shredded by injuries, we had some studs in the 2004 backfield until everyone got hurt.

In all honesty...Shonn Greene is the best back I've ever seen at Iowa...and I'm not sure it's close. I would put him as the backfield alone. Speed, size, vision, desire, and attitude all rolled into one...and he wanted to win too. I just loved the way that dude played. I remember a safety in one of the non-conference games was talking some crap to him after a tackle...and Greene punished him the rest of the game. No moves, no cuts, just straight up power when he broke through to the second level...and he punished that dude...speed, size, and power...230 coming at you with bad intentions.

agree 100%. Greene was the best, unfortunately for fans he just was not here long enough. Would have been interesting to see how Coker's career would have gone had his departure not happened.

He was a grown ass man on the field. Punished opponents

Damien Sims played with AY, and Jevon Pugh was there for their senior year.

AY was the one that "might have been". Both Fred Russell and Jermelle Lewis said he was the most promising RB when he got to Iowa City.

Actually...if you add the QB...look no further than Chuck Long and Ronnie Harmon.

Technically Ferentz "era", but really Fry Era. And I would counter that with Sedrick Shaw/Tavian Banks in 1995/1996.

Fry did have some good backfields. Qbs aside, 1980s had Granger/Phillips/Gill/Harmon at one point. Late 80s/early 90s had Nick Bell/Tony Stewart/Mike Saunders.

I started covering Iowa football during for the 1997 season. The best back I've covered was Ladell Betts. He could run, catch and block. I would put Greene No. 2 and Wadley No. 3.

In 2006 and briefly in 2008, yes, but in 2007, when Christensen was the full-time starter, Greene was loading furniture.
Just think for a moment, say Shonn had kept his grades up and was on that 2007 team. They would have had a better record, Jake would have looked serviceable and Ferentz would have never given Stanzi a chance.

You know...I know Ladell Betts played in the league a long time...longer than Greene...but, in my mind, I can't pull up the highlights that put him in the league (in college) of Shonn Greene. Every team Greene played was geared to stop him as their #1 priority and little emphasis was given to Jake or Ricky...it' was all Greene. Now, Stanzi gained alot of confidence later in the year...but he was asked to manage the game only...and it was hand the ball to Greene.

Greene just had highlight reel run after highlight reel run where he made something out of completely nothing...every game he did something that just had you shaking your head.
