I think earlier in the year this was a real possibility but seeing how well he finished and became an important piece in the rotation I just do not see this happening.

It still makes me sick that they did not redshirt him the year before.

I think this is one of the few big mistakes Fran has made since being here. They wasted an entire season for 20 minutes of pointless playing time.

Agree with WinOne that Iowa's interior defense will be solid with all the length but I would not be shocked to see a noticeable drop off in perimeter D (just like the "good ol' " days, when Iowa couldn't defend the 3 to save their lives) due to the loss of May. His numbers won't be missed that much but his intensity and leadership will be.

Having it / not having it - both can become contagious.

You think Eric May was the difference between being able to defend the 3 or not? LOL. No.

He replaced Gattens who was nearly as good a defender the year before yet Iowa was terrible on D that year.

Eric May was one piece in a large puzzle. By far the biggest difference was stopping opposing points guards from penetrating the lane and kicking.

Iowas D was great all year and May only played big minutes towards the end of the season.

This MIGHT still be on the table. Why? Because Uthoff and Meyer are are coming in.

From the sounds of it, Uthoff may be playing more of a 3/4 instead of a 5, but if he's doing as well as has been said (albeit in practice), he could handle the minutes inside.

To me, the key to this is Meyer. He needs to be able to handle the 4/5. If he can do that, then the red-shirt of GO is a possibility.

But GO really came on at the end and Iowa will need what he can contribute next year. So while it is a possibility yet, I don't think it will happen.
