2011 Team Captains

I think one thing that will be key for Iowa's 2011 season is strong senior leadership. We obviously lose a ton of talent this year from the senior class, but it will also hurt to lose the leadership of guys like Clayborn, Stanzi, Vandervelde, Klug, etc.

My question is who do you guys think will be the 4 team captains at our first game? I think the players usually vote on captains and they can change each game (Greenwood was voted a captain a couple times late in the year), but who will be the first 4 coming out of camp? Also, who will be the 3 seniors that go to Chicago with Ferentz for the Big Ten media days?

I think McNutt should be a lock, but who else? Do we have an Angerer type that can take over in the locker room and get this team ready to work?

My guess would be McNutt, Nielsen, Mike Daniels and Vandenberg. Vandy is only a junior, but this will be his 4th year in the program, and Stanzi was a captain as a junior also. I personally hope he will be since it will show that he is ready to lead this team.

Other possibilities could be Prater, Zus, Reiff (he would be more of the Klug-lead by example type), Gettis, Binns? What do you guys think?

McNutt (lead by example), Gettis (there's always an O-Lineman), Nielsen, Prater.

Stanzi was a junior captain, but he was also a starter as a sophomore and gained the respect of everyone for his performance on the field and in the huddle. Vandy doesn't really have that yet.

I will steal some of tm's thunder except i would replace Gettis with Reiff or Mike Daniels(#93). I get the impression Daniels(#93) is one of those dudes you don't want to eff with.

McNutt and Prater I think would be dead locks due to them being seniors and they both will be on their third playing year. I don't see Vandy getting the nod yet because he only has two and a half games under his belt and he hasn't had the ability yet to show leadership. My guess would be one of the guys on OL, either Reiff, Zus, or Gettis, and then it could cycle between Nielsen and Daniels for the other defensive captain.

Reiff is only a junior. Next year.
Vandy only a junior and has not started yet.
Neilsen is a good option.
Herman would work.
Morris...next year.
Hyde...next year.

This senior class is pretty small...not good.
