Re: 2010 Sneak Peak: Iowa vs Arizona

Iowa wins this one handily, making Hawk fans wonder why they were so worried coming into it...

Iowa 28

Arizona 10

Maybe there will be ALOT of Hawk fans who make the trip and it will cause there to be a mass migration of Iowans ready to party in the desert that will force them to come up with some catchy nickname for the game!?!?

Hmm...the "Fiesta Bowl" would be cool...nah...

Re: 2010 Sneak Peak: Iowa vs Arizona

The big questions to me are Iowa's OL and how we'll respond in our first away game of the year ... especially a night game out west.

I like Reiff's chances of holding off one of UA's quality DEs ... however, how things will look at RT is quite another concern ... especially so early in the season.

If Iowa can be road warriors like we were in '09 ... I'm actually not as nervous about this game as I used to be.

Furthermore, knowing that Mark Stoops and Sonny Dyykes [purposely misspelled because this site has a problem with Sonny's last name] is gone will likely have a bigger impact on the squad than most folks are acknowledging. I just remember how even a quality coach like Hayden struggled when he lost some of his quality assistant coaches ... nobody is immune from contending with "transition" years.

Iowa historically lays an egg in Arizona. Night game too.

I'm thinking the Hawks lose this one.

...

Get off of this board.

How dare you say something negative about Iowa.

I don't want to see you again until you're apologizing after the game in September. Bye.

Re: 2010 Sneak Peak: Iowa vs Arizona

Why do you say that? When playing against UA at Arizona ... in the Fry/Ferentz era, Iowa owns 2 victories and 1 defeat. If you speak of just games in Arizona ... then in the Fry/Ferentz era, Iowa owns 2 victories and 2 defeats.

It certainly will not be easy, however I still like Iowa's chances.

Besides, the circumstances surrounding the game are much different as compared to the last time that Iowa lost in Arizona. Arizona State was rather humiliated against Iowa at Kinnick in 2003 ... and the game in 2004 was definitely construed as "payback." On top of that, Arizona State had the benefit of facing an Iowa squad with a rookie QB and an RB who was still running rather tentatively because he had been injured the prior year (Lewis). Ferentz is on record stating that Babs abandoned his technique in the game ... and that only hamstrung our D that much more. Lastly, while many folks like to tout or D that year ... let us not forget that early in the season we were still breaking in a new starting safety AND we still had Johnson and Allen at CB. No offense to Allen and Johnson ... but Iowa's CB play has been much more formidable in recent years than it ever was back then.

In stark contrast, Iowa is much better suited to face off against pass-oriented teams these days. Of course, that said, the 2010 Arizona squad has much better RBs than the 2004 ASU squad had. Furthermore, Iowa brings a SR QB to Arizona, an upperclassmen laden group of WRs, and an impressive stable of RBs. If Iowa's OL can slow the production of UA's quality DEs ... then Iowa's O should be capable of being pretty dangerous on O.

It's Kinnick Southwest, there'll be 15-20,000 Hawkeye fans there, there is nothing to worry about!!!! Just like ASU game, nah Kirk won't let that happen again!

A 7pm kickoff out there is 9pm Iowa time. That's a long, long time to wait for a football game.

I doubt there will be that many Iowa fans there. Arizona Stadium is really small.

Night game in AZ. We'll lose. I'm not trying to be a troll, I just don't think we'll be ready. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.
