1979

1979 was the last time Iowa basketball has won a share for the Big Ten Title, with 1970 being the last time to win it outright.

After Iowa lost @ Michigan in late January I was having a hard time believing Iowa would have a realistic chance of winning the title this year. But thanks to Nebraska coming up with a huge upset I'm seeing it now as a real chance.

It's not going to be easy with the home game vs. Wisconsin be sandwiched between two tough places to win on the road but I got to think Fran is hungry for making a statement after only getting to the NIT last year.

Six games left of regular season. Couldn't be surprised to see them go 3-3, however itd be pretty awesome to see the seniors step up and lead us to 6-0. Lets Go Hawks!

I was a SR. in HS. I remember where I was when Iowa lost in the NCAA tourney to a lesser Toledo team. The stage had been set in 1970 for a lifetime of disheartening NCAA tourney losses.

That is indeed a long time.

I remember the 1968 Hawks only had to win the last game at home against an average Mich team but they got ambushed by some backdoor plays etc. That was a really good Iowa team that lost a one game playoff to OSU and at that time that meant missing the NCAAs.

This team could go down as very special if they win the regular season title outright or in a tie.

After falling to two games back with 12 to play you didn't think a conference championship was realistic? That's weird.

6-0 finish would be epic and I believe assure a share of the title (Mich will lose at least one more).

Pretty sure he wasn't necessarily alone, although I doubt it had much to do with the math. More about the eyeball test and being worried about staying in the hunt deep into the season based on what he saw at Michigan.

MSU 4-2
Michigan 4-2
OSU 4-2
Iowa 3-3
Indiana 3-3
Purdue 3-3
Wisconsin 3-3

That's what the standings looked like after Iowa kicked the **** out of Michigan in their sixth game of the 2011-12 season.

He wasn't alone and everyone was wrong.

Obviously, they were wrong. But it's not because it's weird to think winning the conference is unrealistic when the team is back by 2 games just six games into the conference schedule. It sure wasn't weird to think we weren't going to win the conference a couple years ago when we were just one game back of first and owned road wins over Wisconsin and Minnesota and a curb stomp of a home victory over Michigan.

Wouldn't it be Andre woolridges senior year do to the fact Minnesota cheated and they had to vacate their title?

Unfortunately, that's not how vacating anything works. They didn't give the Heisman to Vince Young.

Yep, this years team definitely compares with the team from 2 years ago.

Just a hypothetical, but let's assume iowa loses to mich st in east Lansing. Let's say they then finish with the same record, would they share the title still despite being swept?

Yes, they do have co-champions of the regular season.
