pretty simple... not going to beat #10, athletic team in the nation with that shooting...

I won't even comment on the horrible defense in the 2nd half...
 
if you want to be more specific... guard play.

5-29, 17%

Our guards scored 16 points that includes our bench. Texas starting PG/SG scored 22.
 
I'm gonna go ahead and blame nerves. We missed a lot of easy shots.

Of course that doesn't show much improvement in the "mentally toughness" area that it would be fun to have so boooo.

We really do need a lot better production/playmaking at the guard spot...

shooting guards should be able to put points on the board... what ever the size.
 
There's that go to guy that Texas has that we don't. Their guard carried that team and made big time plays. With out him Texas is just an average team.

This game is a learning experience for our team and we will be better for the experience. Fran is not a dumb guy a he clearly can see that every really successful team has that explosive play maker. He needs to find that guy for Iowa on the recruiting trail. I guess I was hoping that Jok would develop into that type of player for Iowa. Outside of him I don't see anyone on the team that shows that capability at this point.

Texas is good. No doubt. I just think you're going to find that this team is going to be similar to last years. The issue is that this years schedule is tougher.

We won't sniff the tournament due to our lack of guard play. I think that realization that we aren't a tournament team for yet another year. What year is this under Fran? Damn right there's improvement but I want results... put us in the frickin tourney.

Game #3 and I will wait before I get carried away.
 
We lost by only 14 to a very good team (like, maybe final 4 good) after playing pretty much as poorly as you can play. Declaring this a non-tourny team 3 games into the season does seem premature.

Probably but here's my theory...

Play in game last year.
This team is probably at about the same level as last years team.
The schedule is tougher.

Thus... no tourney.

Our non conference schedule is tougher but I don't thing our big 10 schedule is. My rational is we are about the same level as last year, our non conference schedule is tougher but we lost 2 games last year anyway, and the chances of a monumental late season collape 2 years in a row is highly unlikely. Therefore we make the tourney.
