14' QB McKinzy

Said he would've committed at Iowa's Junior day til he was told he didn't fit the system...WHY RECRUIT THE KID?! Why does Kurt hate Iowa football?

Probably had more to do with Scheel committing than anything else. I personally would have liked to see both on the team, but hey, if they don't think they need them both, then why waste the scholly?

It is pretty obvious that Kirk wants a pocket passer, highly doubt Scheel stays at QB unless he learns that he is to throw first, then run. Either that or Greg is starting to turn Ferentz around on the issue. Who knows.

One of the most bizarre things I have ever seen. They put the full court press on this kid, become his leader, then turn him down? All we heard over the last few months is how Greg Davis needs a true dual threat to make his offense work, and then KF wants to stay with the Vandenberg model at QB? What a joke, and further evidence that KF doesn't "get it" and the entire GD experiment will continue to be an epic disaster.

You have to consider a few things here, #1 which is extremely important. This is a rumor, complete rumor, until the OP has a link showing an article or video with an interview where the kid said he would have committed and that is what the coaching staff told him it means nothing.

#2 you said "All we heard over the last few months is how Greg Davis needs a true dual threat to make his offense work", that was a fan thing, that didn't come from anyone on the staff.

Rumors and speculation mean nothing. I understand your feelings about KF and the Vandy issue, I am right there with you but that has nothing to do with Scheel and this McKinzy kid now.

Then why in the hell have they been recruiting this kid all along?

Apparently everyone knows something that I don't. Scheel is recruited at QB or WR, and the coaches left it up to him. he has reportedly said he wants to stay at QB. Now, I don't know if that is true or not, but I also have not seen anything about the OP, so who knows if that is true or fiction. People need to calm down.

I think you are either trying to hard to hate on KF and the staff or you just don't get it. My point is no one from the staff said GD needed to have a true dual thread to be success and without it he is screwed. Fans just look at what Vandy did and assumed that unless GD gets a "Vince Young" the offense is going to suck. But in the past 14 years traditionally Iowa hasn't had great offenses, that isn't going to change.

Iowa is allowing Scheel to come in as a QB, maybe they will do the same thing as before with all the dual-threat QBs they got and turn them into pocket passers. Maybe Scheel is comfortable with that. Maybe Ferentz and GD want different types of QBs to see which one will work out better.

The point is who knows for sure, fans on this website take bits and pieces of rumors and run rampant with them.

McKinzy, a dual-threat QB, would have committed on visit. #HawkeyesCoaches said they wouldn't accept it until after he camped this summer.

These are the tweets I was basing the thread on. Thanks for posting them sir.

Thanks herkyattack.

However the original post by GoHawks76 that I responded to assumed that Iowa won't take it and wasted his time. But in fact that wanted him to camp over the summer with them.

Him cancelling his trip all because they wanted to see him over the summer before accepting this committment shows he really didn't want to be at Iowa.

Sure, I can understand him passing on Iowa after that but if he really wanted to be at Iowa he would have waited.

I guess I don't understand really what happned. How does "he didn't fit their system" go along with "they won't accept it until after he camped this summer"? Either he fits or he doesn't.

Sorry I am going to take that the coaching staff knows what they are doing over a few one/two liners on twitter being relayed from a 16-17 year old kid.

Clearly we aren't getting the whole story.

To me there are two stories here. Either he doesn't fit the system or they wanted to see him over the summer, it can't be both. I mean, if he didn't fit the system, why bring him back?

I guess I will hold my dissatisfaction with the teams past few years and believe that the staff knows what they are doing and we aren't getting the whole story, over some second hand tweets from a 16-17 year old kid who is probably upset that he wanted to choose Iowa and they said no, not yet.

Are we nuts?? Who turns down a 14 foot tall QB?

Seriously, though, if we were a greezy SEC school we would've taken the commit from this '14 (not 14') QB then yanked his scholly when he showed up just to keep anyone else from getting him.
We did him a favor.

Had a feeling I did that wrong, please and thank you.
