possiession guys are fine for certain things but not your entire WR corps. Need a few game breakers to keep the safeties out from stacking the run. The OL was terrible so I'm not sure it would have made a difference yesterday though.

It has been the case for the last 35 years. other than the CJ Jones, Hinkle, Mo Brown group Iowa has never had receivers as a group that could stretch the field. McNutt/DJK were good and at times flashed greatness here and there, but they weren't stretch the field guys.

Or they could use the talent you have (Mitchell and Wadley together) to create match-up problems rather than being a slave to their own system?

Randy Moss isn't getting open running 3 yard stick and out routes on 3rd and 3 against press coverage.

The receivers aren't great but the passing scheme does absolutely nothing to help them.

Not sure why a game changing WR would ever commit to Iowa, unless they enjoy running wind sprints.

We had a guy in Derek Willies with size and speed to stretch the field but that did not do us any good. He's a JUCO all American now.

Yesterday was all about getting whipped in the trenches offensively. We could not block anyone at the point of attack or give CJ
time to get into a rhythm. Not sure having Randy Moss would have mattered yesterday.

This X a 1000. You would think GD/KF would have figured this out by 2012. Don't care if GD got his guy in Bobby Kennedy in there.....You gotta show some creativity/imagination when you are not bringing in 5* guys.

Let's face it, we need a major talent upgrade throughout the entire roster. Except qb, and rb we might be okay.

I like the play from the WRs this year. Matt Vandeberg was a first down machine. Even in the rose bowl he burned his opponent for his TD. Smith and Smith both proved themselves to be great deep threats. I like the Smith and Vandeberg combo next year with Falconer Ogwo and others being in the mix too.

Agree x100. We need an upgrade from tevaun smith and vandeberg. Those guys are both solid players, but have zero home run threat. Never once did I have any confidence in these guys deep.

The line sucked, so Stanford consistently brought the house. Misdirection of some sort would have been nice to see, but that's not in new Kirk's repertoire.

Again, Kirk isn't calling the plays. He can be held responsible for not making a change at OC, and hiring Davis, but not for in game play calls.

He likely has a philosophy he expects to be followed, that can be debated if it's right or not, but I absolutely guarantee there is room to be innovative within it.

How about we use our WR wisely? We threw so many swing passes, deep passes to MV, and while he makes some plays, he isn't a threat for those type of plays.

Smith was a weapon and we just never threw to him. Why can't we scheme our best playmaker to get more looks and opportunities?

It was same with our TE, someone like CJF would have been great at jump balls in end zone, or even split out wide to take advantage of his height.

I dont expect any changes for next year

Our lack of WR speed was evident. Watch that pick 6, the guy who picks it off separates from Vandeberg instantly and had another gear.

Tim Dwight class speed tackles that guy.

Tim Dwight's not walking through that door. To win in college football or the NFL, you need explosive playmakers who can take it to the house at any moment. Kirk rarely if ever goes for those guys.

Jerminic Smith might be that guy and he flashed at times but he doesn't know half of what he's doing out there right now and that's why he didn't see the field more.
