1 Game, 18 Days

There was also this: Hawkeyes dealing with quirk in hoops schedule : Iowa

From article:

“It’s not always possible to lay the schedule out exactly the way you want it so you do the best you can,’’ McCaffery said as he prepared his team for today’s 1 p.m. battle with Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. “The Atlantis thing put us in a bit of a box because we had to rush home and then play Notre Dame on Tuesday.’’

Not bad thing. Leaves a sour taste after ISU loss. Let them concentrate on finals then get some rest and family time before the B1G starts.

Eh...much better to go into a 'bye' with a win over the clowns, like last year.
As a player I would not want to sit on a big L for days on end, esp against those guys.

It's not just the horrible spacing, but the radically uneven competition. Teams in the teens or 200's.

I know now you can't lay down schedules exactly how you want them, but this is going a bit overboard.

This team needed to play more teams that would equate to mid or lower B10 teams in the non-con.

I agree that playing glorified high school teams does little to prepare a veteran team for the B1G. I know it always good to have wins under your belt but it would have been nice to have had half of those wins against better competition. I realize a lot of schools do the same thing and that the B1G is the proving ground and hopefully we will be very successful. If not, then padding the win column with cupcakes will draw a lot of scrutiny. It gets real now and the hawks just need to bear down and show all of us who have been waiting for this particular B1G season to arrive that expectations were justified. Any thing below a fourth place finish in the B1G to me would be disappointing. Finishimg in any position above fourth place in the conference would surprise me, not even first place. I've been anxiously pointing toward this season since Basabe, McCabe, and Marble were freshmen. We should have the leadership, experience, and depth to compete with any team in the conference and this should be fun to watch. Let's get it started with a B1G win against the bug eaters. Go HAWKS Go!!!

If you think about it, the only decent games they had scheduled, they didn't really have much to do with scheduling. Xavier, Villanova were tourney games, ND was ACC/B10 challenge and the Iowa schools is a state thing.

The biggest issue is that the starters just didn't get a chance to play enough in crunch time.

True, but remember we did have six games and something like 15 extra practices. That along with only 1 newcomer. Utoff practiced last year and the rest of the squad got plenty of crunch time. I think the European trip was better competition than most of our non-con.
I think they will be ok. All this nice practice and recovery time, followed by an ease in game with Nebby. Then it's off to the races with plenty of chances to prove themselves.

They will most definitely get chances to prove themselves. It will be telling to see when they are able to close out a tight game in conference. Just wish they had a little more practice trying to do that before it really counts. A couple more games like Xavier and ND would have been great.

You are incorrect. Where do you get this stuff? We opted out of another tournament to get in the better tournament with Xavier, Villanova, UTEP, Kansas, etc. Iowa had EVERYTHING to do with scheduling those games. We know we're going to play an ACC team and Iowa State and either UNI or Drake every year.

Is every non conference game supposed to be a potential loss? We have to have some breathers. It gives us a chance to bring along new players and work on weaknesses which are exposed when we play the tougher teams.

There are no breathers in conference so we best take them when we can get them. The next game is Nebraska...currently 90 on Kenpom.

Sorry, but you don't "schedule" tournament games, the tournament organizers schedule the games. You accept an invitation. Scheduling games means ADs calling ADs.

And no, every game shouldn't be a loss or an automatic victory. That is my point. Just way too much feast or famine in the non-con.

And Nebby is indicative of exactly the type of team I am thinking would have been helpful for Iowa to schedule in the non-con - likely win, but not a cake walk. There are about 150 teams Iowa could have chose from that would have been within that range. Just surprising that they couldn't find one or two to replace a couple of the games in which the starters were not in the game any where near the end of the second half.

Common CAAR. Iowa opted out of an easier (actually weak azz tournament) to step it up an play in a much more competitive tournament. That is scheduling that did that, Iowa knew who was playing in both tournaments when they decided to make the switch.

And...you're still wrong.
