It's hard to believe that it's been 23 years since Hawkeye fans and the college basketball world lost one of the good ones, Chris Street. I know that those of us who watched him play vividly remember the news we received that night and where we were at.

I was 12 and unfortunately it seems like it was yesterday. If you didn't get to see him play, Google/YouTube him and you will see a lot of the traits in him & in the Tom Davis led teams that Fran has brought back to Hawkeye basketball. Chris was the kid who epitomized Hawkeye basketball and how it is to be played. He always brought energy, toughness and hustle whenever he was on the floor. He was my favorite Hawkeye growing up and who I tried to emulate my game after.

I really wish that the University would have every home game on/around this date, and maybe even if they are on the road, have the team breaks out the gold uni's. It would be even cooler if they made & wore the one that he played in.

The Streets have been good friends with my parents going way back, and my mom taught him at Mormon Trail before he moved to Indianola. I was honored, thrilled and terrified all at the same time when I had the opportunity to write this story. It's easily the piece I'm most proud of from my time as a writer.

Great read. I was 13 and at home alone doing homework. I got to procrastinating and turned on ESPN and saw Chris Street 1970?-1993. I waited and waited for it to come back because i COULDN't have seen that right. And there it was. As a 7th grader I wrote "40" in big numbers on my shoes for basketball. Here in Nebraska I don't know if anyone knew what that was about. I'm sure a lot of us did something like that. Then the MSU game and the Michigan game that followed were just indescribable. From the lowest of lows to never felt highs.
